I know that OOS have it hard, but is CAL within my reach?

Hey all... I'd be curious to see what you folks think my chance are.

So far I've been accepted at Cal Poly, UC Irvine, UC Davis and UC San Diego. Haven't been rejected...yet!

GPA: 3.78 UC

Essays were good. I applied as a Computer Engineering major.

Thanks in advance!

I doubt I'm getting in because of my horrendously low GPA, but I'd like to hear from others on my chances

Extra Info: Discussed the IB Group IV project and how I'm enrolled in ROP through that and tried to explain the reasons for my low GPA.

Major: Undecided/Undeclared

I doubt that I will get in and I'm not planning on it. Also, just wanted to know if getting to Semifinals in USA Bio Olympiad would make a difference and if I should report it to them and other schools. Also, does ROP count towards GPA? It's just Pass/Fail

ALso, I was asked for Supplemental information from Berkeley which included a letter of recommendation and First Semester Grades from Senior Year. I got a 3.5 Unweighted and 4.5 Weighted. There was also a questionnaire that I filled out too.

I have a couple awards in softball.

Chose physics as my number one major choice.

Why don't we look at the stats for the engineering school, which is what Berkeley's better than LA for. I think the EECS admit rate is around 33% if your UC GPA is 4.2+.

Applied to Civil Engineering

Berkeley is my top choice by a mile but am afraid I won't get in because the CoE is really competitive and I didn't receive this letter: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/649130-likely-letter-women-engineering-im-guy.html

please chance me!! thank you guys so much =D

I feel like you have a fair chance Ihaveseniorities -- though definitely noticeably more so if you are in state! I think better science + math SAT II's could have helped a lot though. But getting into Cornell is a good sign. Nevertheless, Cal engineering for an OOS applicant is certainly not a joke to get into!

mike - With your stats it's obvious that you work hard, rank 2. so I believe that if they can see that- you are in.

phillip - you show to be very smart in the mathematical area, but as you said your GPA shows that you may not try too hard in school. But its obvious you are gifted. their call.

gcheifetz - I think that because you are OOS, that this year that will actually help you. they need money! your GPA is more than impressive, but your SAT is borderline (I think) - good chance

anywaynots - gifted definitely, but I assume on the lazier side (or you are just in a really competitive high school). depends how and who looks at your resume.

ninjashayna - wild card, your softball could be very impressive to them and it certainly is to anyone reading that!

These are just my opinions. I hope you all the greatest of luck on getting in!!!!! =)

thank you mathboy98, and yes I am instate!

that is true, I have been tortured by the SAT's for a year until I discovered the ACT - wayyyy better!

BTW, getting in as oos is harder??? I thought that now - with the economic crisis and all - they need more money. But then again, oos has been harder for years past.

Well, I assume that it's still not a piece of cake to make it as an OOS applicant, but still, the situation probably helps a lot. :)
