@skier91 : I’m sorry but I find it so unlikely that you could raise over $400,000. I understand if you have some sort of major contribution from an unknown person looking for a tax write off, but even that is far fetched. If you apply, I suggest you not include those tidbits because it seems nearly impossible. Not to mention that you did it a second time with the relief effort in Sichuan. Second, unless you are some sort of Radiology prodigy, it also seems questionable that a hospital would allow a teenager to watch over 50 people in the department. Seriously? You’ve had work published in THE NEW YORK TIMES from 9-12 grade? Each year?

You either have absolutely no social life and are some human prodigy OR this is a joke!

I’d say raise your SAT’s and maybe you’ve got a shot at UCSC. Maybe.

@hippiecow: you’ve got a great shot. apply!

Which is harder to get into EECS or undeclared L&S?

EECS is harder to get into. L&S is the easier college. If you get into L&S but want to become an EECS major later on, you will have to apply to the College of Engineering. (There is also a Computer Science degree in L&S, but it will be a B.A., not a B.S, I think.)

If Skier92 is real, the LEAST of her problems would be wondering if she could get into UCB.

Thanks in advance

@ deturbanator: Your gpa is fine. Your test scores are good. The college of letters and sciences won’t even look at your intended major. Just write good essays that show you have a personality and passions, and you’ll be fine. Your extracurriculars show you have focus. If you’re passionate about being a mentor - being a student instructor and volunteering to help those with developmental challenges suggests you do - then that would be a good topic for essay #2.

Thanks for the confidence boost. I have written my two essays already. The first one is on my father losing his opportunity to use the master’s degree he earned in electrical engineering because he stayed in America after his student visa expired. I talked about him losing his dream and then placing that dream into my hands to be fulfilled.
My second essay focuses on a specific event in my martial arts when sparing a 35 year old when i was only 10 years of age. How the fight with him has taught me about how i need to approach life and school. I must apply and develop my knowledge not just let information collect in my mind.

your essay suggestion does sound good though and i might try an outline to see what ideas arise :]

Hey! Berkeley has been my dream school for quite some time now, so I’d really appreciate it if anyone can chance me. :D

You’re from singapore? So am I!!
If you’re a male, are you doing NS? I’m going to surrender my permanent residence so I can avoid it. With those grades, did you try for any UK universities? You have a good chance of getting in those. As for US, I can’t say because I think that your SAT I scores are a bit low. You should have thought about taking 3 SAT II tests instead of two.

I would say UC Berkeley is a reach.

-bitturiju,

If u are indeed refering to me, well ya I am considering uk unis but I’m more keen on going to us for college. Judging by ur post, I guess ur from acsi?? Well i am from rj… and ya i am looking to go to college next yr, not 2 years later… anyway , any idea of my chances of getting in to the schs i mentioned?

thanks

Yup papu26, I was referring to you. And yes I’m from ACS(I).
I’m not really familiar with the universities you stated. But I’d say that you have a good chance at University of Penn. Go check out their page. Applicants with relatively low SAT scores and little or no ECs got in. Its a Ivy league college by the way. So if you stand a chance there, I would say you definitely stand a chance in the universities you stated.

Could you chance me back for UChicago, Harvard, MIT and UC Berkeley?

bitturiju,

From your profile, your a def getting in to UC Berkeley! , they rely quite heavily on sat scores and extra curricular, both of which are excellent in your case!

You have a really good chance at U Chicago too… So if u put in a good app, I am quite sure u could get in… anyway MIT and Harvard are reach schools considering that almost everyone who applies are prob as good or even better than you… U would also be able to get into U MIch or John Hopkins easily.

Hi! I’m quite new here. Can someone please rate my application?

I’m new here in California. I took high school from the Philippines, and I started college last fall. As of now, I’m taking Calculus, Psychology and Philosophy, along with high school level English.

I’m planning to major in Chemical Engineering.

I made my own schedule for the next two years, and so far I don’t think I can do the Organic Chemistry Sequence as well as the Biology sequence (Both are not required, and I don’t think they’re recommended too). If all goes well, I’d be transferring with all the Math, Physics (even 7C equivalent), General Chemistry, English courses needed for admission. I also can get one Engineering course (Engineering 45).

I counted my transferrable credits, and the sum is 61 units.

I am deeply interested in Chemistry, as I am very curious about matter and the environment. I preferred to get Chemical Engineering because I don’t think I’ll be researching all my life. I am creative and imaginative as describe by my former mentors, and I also find these qualities in myself.

Next semester I’m planning to join the Math and Science club in our community college to have more insight about Chemistry. If the Filipino Club gets revived, I’ll join them instead of the Honors Club.

As of now, I do volunteer tutoring at our campus in Math.

I don’t have work, but next semester I am planning to volunteer in tutoring Math once again.

Do you think I have the slightest chance of getting admitted if I get a GPA of 3.7-3.9? I heard that they want people who have completed the most requirements. Does Berkeley prefer people with a rich cultural background? Or they solely look at your GPA, Personal Statement, and prerequisites completed?

Oh, I’m a green card holder BTW.

I just hope I get in, I always wanted to have quality education in preparation for my career in the future. =]

Thanks, I’ll be viewing this post maybe after an hour or maybe tomorrow. Cheers.
