@ davidoga: how could a 3.75-3.8 UW gpa possibly translate to a 4.56 UC gpa?

high school GPA includes classes outside of a-g in which davidoga could have earned low grades. The high school method of calculating classes includes + and - but the UC GPA does not. A- and B- grades would pulll down hs gpa compared to UC GPA. May also have the full eight honors/AP extra points.

or . . . calculated wrong. However, it is possible to have that much of a delta.

Oh, when people post their ‘uw’ gpa for the UCs, i had always thought that they meant the UW gpa that they are going to/did put on their app, i.e. only a-g courses.

UC GPA -> 4.0
Unweighted GPA -> 3.6
Weighted GPA -> 4.4

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the track record of this thread? Did the people who were told in the first 10 pages they had good chances get in in the end?

Holmesian: your UWGPA and SAT scores are both a little low; add in the fact that you’re OOS and your chances aren’t good. I’d give you 20% chance.

And for the record, I estimate people’s chances based on years of reading people’s stats in the admission results threads, from friends who were accepted/rejected years and years ago, from reading average stats of UCB admits, and so on. I think I have a decent grasp of people’s chances. And from reading other people evaluating chances, I’d say their opinions are pretty close to mine. However, there is no specific formula and we all know of those with 1800/3.5 GPA who got in and those with perfect scores who didn’t, so I do recommend that you take this thread with a grain of salt.

Thank you!!

^

UCSF does not offer an undergraduate education…

SAT scores pretty low for Berkeley, especially OOS. GPA is okay. Pretty good ECs. I would say 10% @Berkeley, 15% @UCLA, 25% @UCSD, no idea for USC but that’s probably your best bet considering they don’t have a preference against OOS.

How much would my chances be boosted if my SAT scores were 700+ for Subject Tests and 2100 for SAT I?

I’d tack on 20% for each UC.

Thanks so much for the input, Vicissitudes. Last question, how will Early Decision/Early Action affect my chances?

^ I think it’s 0%, but I’m not sure. Contact admission offices and ask about it.

UCs don’t have early decision. I forget if USC has one, it helps you a little.

nnagy5280: Your GPA and ACT scores are okay, pretty good ECs, being OOS will hurt you, if you’re applying for engineering that will hurt you more. I’m thinking 30-40% chance.
