Personal:

[]Ethnicity & Gender: Asian female
[]Major strength/weakness: Weaknesses? I suppose I just filled the profile of the typical smart kid. I didn’t have anything major like Intel Finalist or good AMC scores to set me apart.
[li]Your thoughts on your decision: I’m naturally disappointed, but I’m a little distanced from it after having been initially deferred. I’m also frustrated because people emphasize all over this board how you have to be different and have a social life and do all this other stuff like science competitions or whatever, but all of that is practically impossible with my parents. I have the typical strict Asian parents and had to struggle just to get them let me join community service clubs because they hated the thought of me volunteering! I would have loved to join a sport or done something else that wasn’t strictly academic, but my parents just flat out won’t let me. Even with academic things it was difficult - I qualified for the Governor’s Honor Program, but my parents made me withdraw because it meant I’d be living in a dorm for the whole summer and they said I didn’t need to be living anywhere else before I was 18. I had the opportunity to intern at the CDC but my parents wouldn't let me because they didn't want me driving or being driven to a more inner city area 3 times a week. Maybe I came off as bland, but there wasn’t a whole lot I could do. The chances I had to do something really amazing that might have made me stand out were forbidden me by my parents. I tried to do as well as I could academically to try and compensate, but apparently that just makes me seem like a robot devoid of personality. I think in college I will be a better person without these restrictions, but no college is going to let you in for that. [/li][/ul]
Any other comments: Ironically enough, I am a legacy through a sibling. This person was an amazing writer though and just as smart if not smarter, and my parents were a little less strict then (a decade ago) and let my sibling get jobs and whatnot. Even so, I’m only mentioning this to maybe console people who feel cheated because they didn’t have legacy – because it’s really not that big of a factor.

I can completely sympathize with you! My parents are like that too. THat's why I am so worried about not being able to get into the colleges that I want to get into. I'm hoping my personality during the interview will make up for my lack of "amazing" EC's.
