[]SAT: 770 M / 770 R / 730 W
[]ACT: N/A
[]SAT Subject Tests: US History: 790; Math 2: 800; Physics: 740 (but school only covered mechanics, themodynamics)
[]GPA, Class Rank/Size: 4.49 W, 4/343
[]APs / other stats: My school doesn't offer many but I took some online through Florida's online school and what was available at school.
[/ul]
Other stuff:
[ul]
[li]Part of GCAAP, ONE, etc. Developed endpovertytoday.com[/li][]Founded Philosophy Club, it has no President since its just a community of people interested in the purpose of life and such but I'm the only senior so I play a leadership role
[]National Merit Finalist (at my school this happen once every 5-6 years)
[/ul]
Subjective:
[ul]
[]Essays: Original was terrible, about my background and enviornment. Supplemental was about ethical/political convictions and paired with an editorial published in the St. Pete Times about the issue.
[]Teacher Recs: Probably good, Supplemental I got to read: "best in 31 years of teaching" basically
[]Counselor Rec: Probably good since she said she'd never had a national merit finalist student before and she knows about my poverty work and such in my spare time; she also knows my house burned down last year but I never mentioned it and hope she didn't b/c I think its irrelevant
[]Interview: lasted 100 minutes, was my first and worst but suprisingly well since I'm shy
[]Hook (if any): My right is devestating but I don't know what boxing has to do with this. Oh, I get it. Philosophy, Ethics aspect probably since most people are much better at Math (and attend much better schools!)
[/ul]
Personal:
[ul]
[]Location (State or Country): FL
[]Ethnicity & Gender: Irrelevant but its clear from my name
[]Major strength/weakness: Ethical convictions drive me 24/7
[]Your thoughts on your decision: I was accepted because of part luck, partly pity because they didn't want to reject a 100% Irishman on the Feast of St. Patrick (my grandfather was born in a bar and my parents met in a bar; I'm as Irish as they come), and probably pity because my house burned down last year. I didn't mention it but a teacher/counselor might have.
[/ul]
Any other comments: I was deffered EA. But more importantly, this isn't a judgement of anything that matters because at the end of the day we are all equally valuable people. We all do our best, struggle through difficult times, and light up the world with our unique talents. I'm on Spring Break though and live in FL though so it would be a nice time to party on the beach if I didn't burn after 10 minutes (literally).

God bless! (I'm actually not Catholic but I still say that, go figure.)

Subjective:
[ul]
[]Essays: I submitted three essays. The main one was on wrestling. The something you have built one was on building a trebuchet after playing AoE. The supplemental one was on my favorite restaurant.
[]Teacher Recs: One from a math teacher and one from a history teacher.
[]Counselor Rec: ??
[]Interview: I didn't feel too good about it. I had no idea our interview would take so long.
[]Hook (if any): I guess wrestling / good teacher recs. I go to a good private school.
[/ul]
Personal:
[ul]
[]Location (State or Country): VA
[]Ethnicity & Gender: East Asian Male interested in math
[]Major strength/weakness: Strengths - Math, Science Weaknesses - English, History, being asian male
[li]Your thoughts on your decision: I didn't think my application stood out all too much. I am an Asian male who likes math / science. I first heard about AMC/AIME when I filled out the MIT application. I'd never entered a science fair - my school doesn't have any and sports are my life outside of the classroom. My English and history grades weren't that stellar (mostly B's). I guess my teacher recs and wrestling hook were good. [/li][/ul]
Any other comments: Asian Power

Wow, in about a 30 hour period my son was admitted to Olin, MIT and became an Intel ISEF Finalist for 2007. Probably monday he'll get the cal tech letter. I am still too wound up to sleep. But, as the decisions roll in the hard choices have to made. They are all great schools albeit with different strengths and weaknesses. As a mom I'll try to stay out of the discussions, but I have been following the MIT/Olin threads with great interest.

[]Ethnicity & Gender: ASIAN (Chinese and Korean)
[]Major strength/weakness: My achievements in piano combined with my nonstandard sports (football/lacrosse, not very common among Asians), excellent recs, and essays that conveyed who I am. Weaknesses ? not as amazing academically as a lot of other MIT admits (ie ones with USAMO, IPhO, ICO), Asian, from the Boston area (10 miles from MIT)
[li]Your thoughts on your decision: Happy, although I?ll feel bad if I say no because others from my school really wanted this[/li][/ul]
Any other comments: Do activities you love, work your ass off, be an active participant in the classroom and school activities, come alive in your application so that the adcoms can really visualize you on campus making an impact, convey your hopes and dreams through your essay, and pray for a lot of luck.
