The Official class of 2011 RA Decisions Thread

there is no such thing as domestic/international or half domestic or whatever.
No matter how international your background seems, if you're a US citizen or permanent resident you're domestic. It's your passport that counts.

Could people distinguish more?

I'm eager to see more international CCers get in MIT...

to kennyk616:
a complete domestic applicant has all his high school career in the united states, while a permanent resident or a citizen who has part of their high school education outside the U.S. will go through the international admission officers, who knows about the education outside America.
Also, permanent residents do not have U.S. passport, they have permanent resident card, while being the citizen of another country.

but on the MIT's website,

it states that they are put in the "domestic pool" and compared with other
"domestic students"

I apologize for the typo about permanent resident, they indeed dont have US passport.

US citizens and permanent residents (those holding green cards) are all considered in the domestic applicant pool. Citizens or permanent residents attending high school outside of the US are still considered domestic applicants. There is indeed no such thing as a "half domestic" applicant. You are one or the other, based on your citizenship or permanent residency with respect to the USA.

ugggg...it's going to cost me $350 to go to cpw. that really sucks. my parents might not let me go given that i spent the summer at MIT.
however, given that they are going to give $15000 per year for the year four years to some college, a $350 investment to insure that its the right college should be worth it ;)

lol true. My mom is scraping the money together (I'm poor too) so I have to chose between visiting MIT and columbia. MiT's winning
