I'm sure some of it has to do with need though. I dont think Brandeis meets 100% of need. Does anyone know how much Brandeis is per year total?

brandeis is very expensive and really lousy value for ur money

I got accepted to Brandeis last year (and am obviously not attending). They offered me the least amount of aid out of any of my schools - a measly $16,000 (and only $8000 in grants). Now, considering that Mount Holyoke offered me approx. $28,000 (with $24,000 in grants), and Scripps just slightly less, I would say that Brandeis is less than generous with aid. Maybe they would have a higher yield if they offered a few less scholarships and more aid? That's just a shoot-in-the-dark kind of question, though.

I'm dissapointed to hear that they give so little. I would have really enjoyed going to this school, but at about forty-two grand a year I'm going to have to say that perhaps I'm not so interested. Especially if people w/ good scores like the people on this board aren't getting good amounts of cash.

you will probably end up getting more money over the summer... once they figure out who is attending and who isnt. but for all of you attending, i'm going to be one of the Orientation Leaders! So i'm really excited to see you all in the summer! Good luck with all your other schools!!!

I have a 1470 and I got a great scholarship. I will certainly be able to afford this school if I decide to attend, so just because some people didn't get what they wanted, it doesn't mean that nobody did. :)

I was accepted a couple of days ago, and offered a full tuition Justice Brandeis and Annenberg Scholarship. I haven't made any decisions about attending, and am still waiting for all the cards to appear on the table, that is from other colleges. On the one hand, there is the question of money, as my parents don't qualify for need aid anywhere. Instead of making sacrifices with an Ivy, I could pocket the $125k from Brandeis, not work a day in college, and spend my summers traveling around the capitals of Europe, and lavish myself with other things. In addition, Brandeis is close ot home, and is 62% Jewish, which being a Jew, makes me happy :). Yet, I really love certain other institutions, which will not give me a penny. So herein is the dilemna. I know plenty of people who've gone to Brandeis, and been accepted to the top medical schools in the United States, and others who attended places like Harvard and MIT and become miserable failures, accomplishing nothing. So if you're extremely smart and motivated, you'll find your way in many schools, and get into a good grad school, which matters far more than undergrad, regardless of what the prestige nuts on this board seem to think. But then again, there's the question of one's undergraduate experience, and a price tag cannot be put on that. If anyone's interested in my stats, there's a link to them in my profile.

congrats luckystar and everyone else who got accepted. good luck elsewhere! i'm sure whatever school you end up going to, you'll have a great undergrad experience.
hmm, i'm still waiting to hear from brandeis!!! this sucks.

I'm in too! I haven't visited Brandeis yet and I'm waiting to hear from other schools, but I was so happy to get that blue envelope.

heyyy everyone! i was just waitlisted. brandeis is my safe safety school, so um...a surprise.

1450/800/690/650, 3.6 gpa, national awards in science, opera, and some very focused leadership. very strong recs, etc etc, whatevs. i already got into umich.

<3 for real! -f.b.

umich is way better than brandeis in most areas so congrats

go48 what is with all the negativity. are you a 'deis student or what? If so, then why don't you like it?

yeah, thanks go48.

oh, are you a brandeis student? lol. that would be funny.

first, no im not a brandeis student.
my negativity stems from a few things: I have a close friend who went there, had a good experience but didnt really get much out of it , especially in terms of careers (brandeis has nothing in carrer placement , nothing at all)
also , my brandeis interview was totally crazy , was with a hippie nut who told me for 1 hour how she protested vietnam at brandeis and wants to get rid of bush etc... real lousy impression...

but im not all that negative , i still think brandeis is a good school, and i like the fact that its jewish , just a bit too expensive for what u get out of it...

Luckystar: what are your interests, objectives, possible majors? Brandeis is a fine school; you'll be able to go there at no cost to your parents, so what are you aiming at that would offset a full-tuition scholarship?

dadofsam, I'm not sure what my interests or objectvies are at this stage of life. For me, it is hard enough picking what to order at Starbucks, let alone determining what majors or career I will pursue (LOL). But if I was to select a major, I would probably take a double major in history and math, perhaps history and chemistry. As for long term goals, I know for certain that I want to go to graduate school, though not necessariily which one (Law school, international studies, med school maybe?) In any case, I'm a curious, focused individual who's worked hard in high school, and ready to continue this in college, setting a high bar for myself. Regarding Brandeis, I have a couple of concerns. First of all, some of the departments there are not as strong as those at other colleges on my list, and on average, the student body might not be nearly as strong as others. The facilities at Brandeis and the food also leave more to be desired, at least according to graduates I know. Finally, it is not as well known a school as others I'm interested in, but that's probably not an important factor for those who go to grad school.

Comment about admissions-I don't quite see what the people in that office are up to. Others just as qualified as I have gotten waitlisted, who also expressed far more interest in the school than I have. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the process, whether at this institution or anywhere else. The only general trend I observe is that having high stats improves chances, but often you see amazing candidates not getting in, while modest ones receive a fat package.

I'm accepted.... but not attending. Got basically a full ride to Williams, so I'm pretty sure I'm going there.

Accepted with Justice Brandeis scholarship! Yay! I thought it was cool anyway. I'm a definate maybe at this point. Money is a large issue for me (aka don't qualify for need of any sort, but still need money to go to college) and the scholarship is looking really good right now.

I have to decide between paying very little at Brandeis, UCI, UCSB, or UCD, or paying more, but still affordable, at UCB or UCLA.

BackToReality

Come to Brandeis! My cousin goes to Berkley and some of his classes have like 500 kids in them. I could never handle that. BOO UCs! Just kidding.
