Decisions are slated to be released next month in "late April." Although UCLA hasn't committed to an exact date as far as anyone here knows, they have historically released their decision date for transfers about a month after they've released freshman decisions, which was March 21st this year. Historically, they've also released their decisions a couple days or so before UC Berkeley(April 25th, this year), so this means UCLA will probably release transfer decisions around April 20th-23rd.

Who else just wants the end of April to come already? I sure do. :(

My major for UCLA is Psychology, but this is only because they will not let me declare a double in Psych if I’m not originally admitted to the major. My intention is to either double major Philosophy / Psychology, or major Philosophy with a minor in Psychology and maybe Music.
GPA is 3.96 (damn you physics for ruining that 4.0 for me)

How about you?
I applied as Philosophy at all other campuses (UCI, UCB)

My GPA is 3.83 and I’m a philosophy major too! It’s pretty cool that you want to study psychology and philosophy; the two fields are great to study together if you’re in to philosophy of mind.

@Cayton
Hah thanks! You’re a shoe-in for philosophy too. Hopefully we’ll both get in.
Yeah philosophy of mind has always been pretty interesting to me… I’m starting to really get into philosophy of language specifically too. Is UCLA your first choice?

I get ya, man. I remember compulsively checking my application for errors almost every day. I’m glad I no longer feel it’s necessary to do that. :)

@Freetofly112

I think the idea of philosophy of language is somewhat interesting but I’m not too sure what to expect from it. I know UCLA is really strong in that area of philosophy and that David Kaplan, a superstar in the world of philosophy, teaches it at UCLA, but still…I guess I’ll find out if/when I get there.

And yeah UCLA is my first choice, It’s a great school that I don’t live too far from. The community college I attend is roughly the same distance from me as UCLA is.

I assume UCLA is your first choice too? Have you thought about going to Berkeley for philosophy? You have the grades for that school.

Yeah I’ve heard good things about Kaplan. I’ve also heard great things about Searle, but he’s teaching over at UCB.
My main pick has been a toss up between Berkeley and UCLA. I live in SoCal already, over in Orange County, so I like the idea of staying closer to my roots and friends (plus the weather here is a bit more awesome, I love the sun hah). Still, Cal has a certain allure to it as well… Ah, who knows. I’ll cross that bridge when it comes.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Cal also has me interested in going there. Unfortunately, it seems as if Cal actively discourages philosophy majors from going there because its pre-reqs aren’t offered at most community colleges. UCLA isn’t so picky with its philosophy pre-reqs.

Also, UCLA’s philosophy classes just seem more interesting and varied than Cal’s. :O.

I can’t wait to finally get my decisions back! But one more month is nothing haha. @cayton are you considering Cal at all? If i get into both schools I’m going to have a tough time deciding

I have given a lot of thought to Cal recently, and even considered going there over UCLA for a short time, but I’ve decided that I’ll probably choose UCLA over Berkeley.

Since both schools are great for you and will provide many opportunities for you to flourish and succeed, I wouldn’t know which school to choose either. Berkeley is a great school, but UCLA might provide you more opportunities for research and offer you connections to their medical school. I believe Berkeley has a relationship of sorts with UC San Francisco that benefits their pre-med students, but I don’t know if the opportunities for Cal pre-meds are as good as those who go to UCLA.

Still, you can’t go wrong with either school!

@cayton, I guess I shouldn’t worry about this right now because we never know if we will be lucky enough to get into both schools But I know what you’re saying, UCLA has its own medical school and I do want to do research, but my research would be more related to medicine than anything else… So yeah it’s going to be a hard decision. What about you, are you planning to attend law school or grad school?

This will be the longest month of our lives. :O

@ucastell

I have no plans for law or graduate school at the moment. The job opportunities for lawyers and professors are surprisingly bad, believe it or not. Unfortunately, I don’t know what to do after graduation. I’ll have to figure that out very soon.

Yeah. The important thing is obtaining a bachelor’s degree. Many people say that bachelor’s degrees are the new high school diplomas, but that’s simply not true. Having a 4-year degree will, more or less, allow you to a live a middle-class life and even graduates in the humanities/liberal arts make decent salaries several years into their careers.

What area of medicine do you want to work in? Primary care? Surgery? Do you want to become some sort of specialist or do you want to become a medical researcher?

@Zalrons

It’ll be a month-long ride marked by anxiety and frustration. At least, in my case anyway.

Sucks that we only have the line “late April” as far as knowing when decisions will be sent out. By this time last year they had said it would be April 19th. Although they did end up pushing it back a week. I hope that this means that they are taking their time so they can give a definitive date and not delay it.
