The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

I have an appointment with a UCLA rep tomorrow afternoon, so I’ll let you guys know what her take on this whole situation is

@ale2194‌

Dude, if you’ve completed all of the pre-reqs for your major, I think you have a very good chance of getting in. Anthropology is about as easy to transfer to as philosophy is at UCLA.

Anyone applied as Middle Eastern Studies?

Any International Development Studies majors?

@smashley93 I literally made an account just to answer you because I didn’t see anyone else posting about IDS
So, yeah, me! I’m nervous about the major because its so impacted! I am doing TAP so hopefully they accept me into it. I got a 3.79 gpa but the average gpa for the major has risen to 3.87, it used to be like 3.8

@Cayton‌

But I’m wondering if they’ll see me using so many AP units to satisfy my IGETC/60 unit req as bad thing… and also my major GPA is kind of low too and I know UCLA pays special attention to it…

Hey guys, I’m a Cal State student and was wondering how much that hurts my chances compared to a CC student. I applied as a Political Science major. I have a 3.89 GPA and a 3.95 in my major classes.

@ale2194‌

None of the UCs have stated officially or unofficially any preference for traditional college classes to satisfy the 60 unit requirement over AP classes, so you should be fine there.

And I think your major GPA is fine, especially since your major is unimpacted. I’d worry more if your major was extremely impacted, like psychology, biology, or economics.

Frankly, I believe you’ll be accepted and I’d be shocked if you weren’t.

@Cayton‌

Let’s hope that all holds true and we both see each other around on campus next year! :slight_smile:

@squashbanana It is really impacted! I did TAP as well. Do you know what you want to do with that degree? I’m debating not accepting if they admit me, because I’ve changed my mind and want to do Polisci, but UCLA is so damn impacted that it’s nearly impossible to change into that major. What’s your alternate major?

@smashley93

Is that major supposed to be UCLA’s version of International Affairs/Relations? Or would that be Global Studies? Hmm :-/

@smashley93‌ Omg. I’m in the same boat as you! I applied to a major I no longer want to study, so I’m wondering if I should even accept if they admit me.

So i’m a psych major with a 3.75 gpa and TAP and I just caught up on the forums of how the release might be this weekend and I sort of began hyperventilating… I can safely say this is either gonna be a wonderful weekend or one of the most painful weekends I’ll experience.

@ocnative They are very similar! Global Studies focuses on culture/society, governance and conflict, and markets. IDS focuses on critical issues common to the developing regions of the world. But basically the same pre-reqs and career opportunities. I could be wrong, but I differentiate the two as GS being a broad study of those concepts, and IDS being addressing those concepts, but in impoverished/underdeveloped countries. International relations with a twist B-)

@anavera What major did you apply with? And is the one you want to switch to impacted?

@robertshahinyan‌

I believe that with TAP, you’ll get in.

@anavera‌
right there with ya. maybe they’ll let us switch

As long as you guys weren’t planning to switch into the extremely impacted ones (Psych, BizEcon, Econ), then you should be fine.

@smashley93‌ Okay maybe not exactly the same boat. I applied to Linguistics, back when I wanted to be a speech therapist. But now I want to major in Public Health, which, UCLA doesn’t even offer as a major lol. It has a grad school though.

But we’re still both stuck in the “I can’t major in what I want to major in” situation. Sigh. So I’m not sure what to do if I get accepted. It’d be real sweet to go to UCLA…but do I really want to study something I don’t plan on using for my future?

@anavera What are your other school options? It would be really tough to have to walk away from the prestige of UCLA, but in the long run, I think it’s more important to study what you want to study. For me personally, if UCLA accepts me but has zero major flexibility, I might just end up at UCSD. (If Cal rejects me :(( )
