The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

Hey guys !
I am wondering if housing trick on Ursa is working for 100%.
If I have a good message on that, I will probably get in?Or
If I have a bad sign on that, I will probably not get in??

Can housing thing be updated again in future? or was it already finished to be updated by ucla ?

Thanx:)

@GreatestTheā€Œ

from assist.org:

ā€œListed below are the lower division preparation courses for the major. THIS
MAJOR IS HIGHLY SELECTIVE. ALL preparatory courses should be completed by the
spring term just prior to transfer. All courses must be taken for a letter
grade. The calculus course requirements should be met as early as possible.ā€

Hmm, it doesnā€™t sound too encouraging. Youā€™re still doing Calc II right now in the spring. If you got a good grade in your Calc I class, that may encourage UCLA to take a chance and admit you on the belief that youā€™ll do well in your Calc II class.

I donā€™t really have a definitive answer for you in regards to whether doing Calc II in spring will hurt your chances. I want to say that it wonā€™t, but Iā€™m only about 70% certain of that. Iā€™d rather be at least 90%. Oh well. Youā€™ll just have to wait. :(

@Zalronsā€Œ

Nice. Over here, itā€™s about $20 for a mid-shelf strain I believe and $30 for the really good stuff.

It sucks that your shop closed down. I think the federal government will decriminalize weed in the next 5-10 years as public support for marijuana legalization increases. I know that the justice department has promised to leave Colorado and Washington alone and not go after weed smokers in those states. California will definitely legalize weed by 2016 as public support for legalization here is very high. I canā€™t wait!

@music1990ā€Œ

No, itā€™s not. I think it only applies to the most impacted majors and even then, theyā€™ll probably just tell you to earn good grades in those last pre-reqs.

Iā€™ve seen a few people get in to Berkeley in various majors with some missing pre-reqs. Since music is not competitive at all at Berkeley, I think youā€™ll get in, especially since Berkeley doesnā€™t even have specific required pre-reqs for applicants to take. I remember you saying that you have a 4.0. In that case, youā€™ll definitely get in.

None of the UCs mind if you still have classes in your last semester that you have to take to be IGETC-certified. Iā€™m taking an art history class right now and itā€™s the only class Iā€™m taking this semester that I need for IGETC and Iā€™ve been accepted to a couple of UCs already. I donā€™t think Berkeley will care as long as you complete your last general education classes by the end of Spring.

Iā€™m worried I didnā€™t explain the amount of hours my ECā€™s take up. ā– ā– ā– ā– . I shouldā€™ve elaborated more.

@purplewedding
lol. iā€™m sure we WILL get in UCLA if we combine our app. I donā€™t have any work experience only some volunteeringā€¦ Good luck with Rhetoric tho!

I am getting nervous, especially since I havenā€™t received anything from them in like 2 months. just pure silence.

ā€œThe calculus course requirements should be met as early as possible.ā€

@cayton please kill me.

I am worried i am a com major and my gap is 3.81 but i have had a 4.0 ever semester except my first. I am also the captain of my swim team for 2 years in a row not but i know comm is super difficult to get into

@Caytonā€Œ

Thanks! That makes me feel better. I donā€™t know how you have learned so much about the application process. If your career plans donā€™t work out, it seems like you could always be a transfer counselor as a backup plan.

:( So nervous. Applied as a chemistry major because I was missing some pre reqs for chemical engineering. Figured itā€™s better to be in the school than not at all haha. I just got my acceptance to UCI chemical engineering though!

@GreatestTheā€Œ

I must admit that that does sound discouraging, but take a look at this: <a href=ā€œTragic UCLA provisional contract.. T.T - UC Transfers - College Confidential Forumsā€>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/704501-tragic-ucla-provisional-contract-t-t.html</a></p>

This person majored in economics(Similar to your major) and was admitted several years ago. Even then, economics was a highly impacted major at UCLA. He had a 4.0 GPA but he still had some pre-reqs in progress in his spring semester. Itā€™s possible that youā€™ll be admitted like he was and that youā€™ll have a contract telling you to do well in your Calc class. Donā€™t lose hope!

@music1990ā€Œ

Iā€™ve done a lot of reading on old topics in this forum and have talked to my TAP program counselors about these things so I know a thing or two about this stuff.

And yeah, haha, I guess I could be a counselor, but I think Iā€™d need a degree for that and some experience somewhere(other than here, of course :P). I just hope Iā€™m right and you get in to Berkeley. Iā€™m confident that youā€™ll get in.

@cayton several years agoā€¦ SEVERAL! like 5 years ago gpa was 3.7 to be admittedā€¦

honestly Iā€™ll probably get in.

@Caytonā€Œ

What are your career goals, by the way? Are you pre-law? :slight_smile:

wowā€¦wowā€¦wowā€¦ a 4.0 with 19 units

granted he had TWO prereqs in his spring semester, I have one.

@GreatestTheā€Œ

Yes, but I think it can still serve as evidence that completing a pre-req or two in spring wonā€™t result in your rejection.

I guess itā€™ll be prudent to just wait until tomorrow or Saturday or whenever decisions are released. I swear that if I see that you get accepted, Iā€™ll send you a PM saying ā€œTold you youā€™d get in.ā€ :D

@music1990ā€Œ

Music is in the Arts and Humanities Division at Berkeley, which has a high acceptance rate. I hope that is comforting.

Damn, that is the MOST unfortunate contract I have ever seen. My UCI one just says maintain at least 2.0 which is stupid easy haha.

@Caytonā€Œ

Iā€™m sure you need a B.A., but I doubt you need one specifically in ā€œcounselingā€. Does that even exist? lol idk. But Iā€™m sure you have other career paths on your mind anyhow. What do you want to be?

Thanks for the encouragement. Iā€™m pretty confident but thereā€™s still that twinge of doubt. Plus I donā€™t want to get overly confident, and then be let down if I get rejected. Well Iā€™ll still be let down, but I wouldnā€™t mind going to UCSD too much either. I would tell you Iā€™m confident you will get into UCLA, but thatā€™s a given that you will be accepted. If you arenā€™t for some crazy reason, I will spend my summer staging a protest outside of the admissions office.

@GreatestTheā€Œ Man I wish I were that confident :frowning: Iā€™m a nervous wreck over here. I just want it to be tomorrow already!

@mochabubble Iā€™m going back and forth between ā€œIā€™m goodā€ and ā€œIā€™m gonna kill myselfā€

@GreatestTheā€Œ Haha definitely. I canā€™t believe I had to go through this once in high school, and now again. So stressful! What I hate most is that USC wonā€™t even come out till late MAY. Youā€™d think theyā€™d release their decisions around the UCā€™s but no. Theyā€™re lame like that.

@music1990ā€Œ

haha, a protest on my behalf would be greatly appreciated. :smiley: Even though Iā€™m confident Iā€™ll get accepted, anything can happen. ANYTHING. I guess itā€™d be wise of us both to be moderately confident but not too confident that weā€™ll get accepted.

Although I must say that being invited to apply for a Regentā€™s scholarship seems promising even if it doesnā€™t necessarily mean youā€™re admitted.

And yeah, believe it or not, counseling degrees exist. Not sure if Iā€™d need one to be a counselor but I bet itā€™d help. EDIT: I have no idea what I want to be. Iā€™ll figure that out soon enough, though. :)

I just hope with all of the chancing on this forum that Iā€™ve done recently that I donā€™t unnecessarily get so many peopleā€™s hopes up only for many of them to be let down. To be honest, I only say that someone will probably be accepted at Berkeley and/or UCLA(The only two UCs whose admission standards Iā€™m familiar with) if I genuinely believe it. I hope my instincts are right for their sake and for mine.
