M9 is so close I can taste it! It kinda tastes like vanilla soft serve ice cream.
Had my first M9-related dream last night. I was going to open a portal of a school and then just woke up immediately (at 7am). And then I went back to sleep all the way to 11:30 lol.
i really wish i could spend this last week relaxing/stewing in anxiety/being lazy but i’ve got so much work to do… on second thought i don’t even know if i would rather have spring break and nothing to distract myself with or be in school working!
@sparkatzz This was your first M9 dream… I have been having admissions dreams since I submitted apps. Sometimes they are more like nightmares. Like a couple days ago I had a dream that they were reading my app at andover and I accidentally submitted my essay for Exeter so they were all laughing in committee before tossing my app in the rejection pile…Basically I’m actually going crazy.
@marcellasne Same! Somehow it feels like I have more work to do now than while writing my application… but at least the days are going by quickly (ish)
We all have to admit that M9 is coming soon, whether we like it or not. So for the next week, let’s forget about everything and party (aka do math homework)!
Had a dream a while back I got into Brooks, Chatham Hall (?), Berkshire (?), and Miss Hall’s (???)
I misgender myself in my dreams smh
In my Loomis dream Ethel Walker School was right next to it and then my art teacher randomly appeared and I was in a dungeon. None of my dreams ever make sense.
I had a PEA dream where the whale skeleton was trying to find out the way to the nearest Dunkin Donuts, and I couldn’t do anything but recite Jabberwocke. Then the whale started chasing me, so I hid under a giant paper boat and found out I had seven spelling mistakes in my essay. The moral of the story - somebody needs to invent dream spellcheck.
@CC4life well, first one opening a portal at least. My first dream about this dates back to a year ago when I wasn’t planning on transferring – I had a dream one night that I miraculously got accepted to Loomis without applying. This is actually one of the reasons that I’m applying this year.
I’ve had dreams of M9 since I discovered Exeter a couple of years ago… of course, none of them took place in the bathroom at a robotics competition, where I’ll likely be on the actual M9… Anybody have tips on how to react if theres’s bad (or even good) news in front of people at a public event? I’m worried if there is bad news that I’ll be really disappointed in myself, and I’m worried about how that’ll affect my mood throughout the day… this has been my dream for so long that realizing that it won’t happen would be devestating… I’m not sure how I’ll be able to get over it in minutes before returning to a competition.
@ThatScorpio Don’t read the email first thing in the morning or throughout the day. I would open it up at night if I were you.
Don’t read it during the competition. It’ll ruin your mojo, should you be rejected.
@YoungThriver great advice… but, knowing myself, I’ll likely not be able to follow it! I expect to be opening my email at 6:00 am and waiting for Exeter’s decision, opening the portal for Andover at 9:00 am, and then waiting throughout the day for other decisions. Opening it right when it comes in just feels like part of the experience…
I wish I had your self-control!!
@ThatScorpio I understand. If I may ask, what sort of competition will you be competing in?
@YoungThriver FIRST Robotics Competition. It’s my first competition ever, too! (though I am a FIRST Lego League alum )
@ThatScorpio Have you and your team already assembled a robot?
@ThatScorpio
Wow another FIRST participant! I just finished my 2 years of FLL where we went to states for our first two times;
Good luck in your comp! Do you have a robot reveal on YouTube?
@YoungThriver Yes, build season ended around two weeks ago.
@aplusryan I don’t feel comfortable sharing our team name.
Isn’t FLL an amazing program? My team went to the FIRST Championship in Detroit last year and I met some of the most amazing people from all over the world! I can’t wait to volunteer in a couple of years! (I wish I could tell you my FLL team name (our YouTube channel is beautiful) but then my identity is just extremely obvious… )
Is FRC a good experience (in terms of the competitions)? Our school is one of the first FTC teams and we found some
(actually many) of the judges to be inexperienced or rude – long story, so we are planning to not go next year anymore, although most likely I won’t stay at this school either.
@sparkatzz I haven’t been to a competition yet, but I’ve competed in FLL and FTC and know a lot of people who have years of experience competing at many different levels in FRC. I’ve only heard good things about FRC. In FLL (and I believe it’s the same in FTC) many of the volunteers were inexperienced… it depends on your state. Since FTC is set up much like FLL, the inexperienced and rude judges probably just means that the organization running the program in your state doesn’t have many good volunteers.
FRC is set up differently in terms of the competitions you attend, and many of the refs and judges have been volunteering for years. The competitions are larger, and the program is larger… there is a lot more funding and publicity.
Of course, FRC is VERY different from FTC in terms of the robot you are building and especially the cost of the robot.
I’m very interested in some of the stories of rude and inexperienced judges though… ??? (I have way too many from my FLL days ?.. sometimes I wish I lived in a larger state lol)
