The Official M10 2019 Freakout Thread

I haven’t received an email from a single school on how to access the portal. Not Choate, not Andover, nobody. Yikes, has anyone else?!

@ffsophiar please see post #800 on this thread

Thanks…I thought Andover sent them early though. Oh well, I guess i’ll get them eventually

@ThatScorpio Loll yeah. One of the volunteers is this old man in charge of safety glasses. And whenever someone is not wearing safety glasses, he would come and stare at you without a single word until you put on your safety glasses. Another judge dragged one of my teammates during the interview to the other side bc he was in his way. Idk, FRC sounds much better!

@sparkatzz wow, that does sound really rude! I’m sorry you had a negative experience… FIRST really is an amazing program… I hope you know that it is much more than just its volunteers!

In keeping with the tradition I began last year on this Freakout Thread, I will be posting my Freakout Poem in celebration of the coming decision week. Hopefully, a bit of my humor will be just the “tonic” if you are stressed out this week. I wish you all the best. It’s been wonderful getting to know the new BS parents & students from the Class of 2023 and (also) those Uppers. Enjoy this time together because the days seem to fly away so quickly between now and the start of BS. Hoping we will see some of you at tournaments and games nex year! Remember - our support here on CC seems to grow even stronger at the start of school - meaning that we are here for you all!! :bz

@ThatScorpio Wow that is amazing on how you guys can go to Worlds, and I get your confidentiality! Our team is no where near that good, but our towns FRC team is one of the best, like top 10 in the world. That caused another dilemma if I get into a BS, of education vs. robotics. But FRC is amazing nonetheless, hope you had a great tournament!

Hey does anyone know what CDB stands for, I saw it on another thread. The comment itself was this guy who got accepted to Andover saying that Mr. Graber (who coincidentally interviewed me!) told him they accept a lot of ‘CDB’ students. I have a feeling it’s community service, because I heard that 50% of the people accepted have done some form of it, but I just wanted to confirm with someone who knows better.

@M0hammad I think it stands for the Caroline D. Bradley scholarship

Correct.

Ok so my current school emailed again saying that I have to renew enrollment with deposits by March 8, so I’m planning on calling a safety school today to get a verbal decision. The AO there told me that I can call and get a verbal decision in the event of some school releasing decision early. What should I say when I call them? Should I just tell them my school’s tuition is due by Friday? But then would they realize that they are my safety?

Also I’m so nervous to think that I might get rejected by them…then I will have absolutely no idea what to do

@sparkatzz, I think your first step should be to have your parents call your current school and kindly ask for an extension to Wed, March 13 if your family has not done so already. Assuming your family is in good standing at the school, I don’t know why this would be a problem, even if they say “No, Monday morning at the latest,” still gives you some time, but start by politely asking for a few days extension.

@sparkatzz I agree with everything hoopsdad says, but if worst comes to worst and they won’t give you any wiggle room on the tuition date and the school won’t give you your admission decision, and the safety school you applied to is truly a safety, then I wouldn’t pay the tuition.

@sparkatzz Also it’s not a surprise to AO’s at a school with a larger acceptance rate that they are a lot of people’s safety schools. They won’t read into any questions unless you state or imply that they are your safety. In addition, most decisions are probably already made, and they won’t change your decision over a phone call asking a question about an early notification. Hope this helps.

@lightningqueen12’s “just something to think about” of the day:
This was post #76, on January 3rd. Now, with just 5 days left, we’ve come so far! If 61 days went by that fast, 5 will be a breeze! Just something to think about.

That’s incredible! Time has really flown. Today has felt very long because I had a snow day, and nothing to do. But I cleaned my room and study - spick and span! I really like being organized lol.

Is anybody else a little scared of M9? I’m just not sure if I want everything to change… if I don’t get accepted I’ll have to let go of my dream of attending boarding school, which I really don’t want to do!!

I guess we all have to move on eventually…

I’m not exactly scared, I just don’t want to know if it’s bad.

@lightningqueen12 Yeah, I don’t really want to know either…

I feel like I’m letting go of an era of my life… this application was a couple of years’ work in progress, and in a couple of days I might have to let go of all of it!! Hopefully to move on to a boarding school… ?
