I one hundred percent agree with @ilovechoateeeee and@thatscorpio about helping out future applicants… Which is why those of you who are freaking out and have not yet commented on the chance thread about “giving back to future applicants”, I urge you to do so. Not only does it help to get all those things off your chest, but it also genuinely helps future applicants. Here is a link to that thread below:
2023 but I’m repeating 9th
Does anybody know how repeating ninth affects your chances compared to being an eighth grader?
(just curious)
@hoopsdad2000 @ThomasBr Thank you! My parents are not in the US so they can’t really call, but I asked them to send the school an email to see if an extension is possible.
For those applying to 2023, you still have a chance repeating 9th/10th if you don’t get in! I saw on one thread a couple of years ago that an int’l applicant didn’t get into any school the first year, but got into Andover the second year!
I have no idea, but maybe they might have a very very slight advantage of being more mature?
@ThatScorpio I think if you are applying to the same school the second time, it will likely to help you? (yield, passion, determination, growth, etc. )
@sparkatzz, I think it would improve your chances. Not sure tho. I have heard that some schools urge certain applicants to repeat a grade, especially with a late birthday.
@sparkatzz True, but for me, I can’t stand spending a 4th year in the cycle
@sparkatzz That makes sense. Not exactly my case, since I went into ninth grade after seventh grade and only found out ninth grade it was an option in March, so I didn’t have the option of applying for the first year… (I’m explaining this badly sorry). Anyway, it’s my first time applying.
At the same time, do they ever worry about having students repeating a grade that might be a better fit in tenth grade? I have no clue, I just thought that sometimes students might not fit in if they are a significant amount older.
@ilovechoateeeee Impressive amount of determination to get this far though!! I hope it works out for you :).
This is my 1st time applying and I’m repeating 10th, so I only have this one shot lol. @ilovechoateeeee I can’t imagine what it’s like, but worst comes to worst, there are so many things you can get for your education even if you are not in a BS. Huge shout out to Coursera! (you can easily get full FA for all the classes too!)
I’m not sure, but if anything, it would be better to repeat at a prep school. Your typical local public school 9th grade may be nothing compared to a Choate or Exeter 9th grade. They might be happier that you want to deepen your education at a certain level.
I’m applying for 2023
If I don’t get in this year, then I’ll just stay at my current school. That result isn’t the end of the world, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I get to experience BS
hey @misslilbookworm, where r u applying?
We’ve made it so far, and there’s only a little left to wait!
I’m applying to SAS, Groton, Middlesex, Blair, and Hill.
What about you?
SAS is also my first choice
Choate, Loomis, Taft and Cheshire.
I love the school song video of Hill
