The Official October 2012 Sat Subject Test Math Level 2 Thread

Guys, DON’T TALK ABOUT IT YET

It’s 6:37 on the West coast, they haven’t even got to the testing site yet, so many people could read this.

I said nothing about test…

Ok, just don’t give out any details yet. Remember your questions/answers and wait at least till 11 am, even later to be safe.

I chose -1 for the last question as well.

Is it wrong?

I really hope there is a good curve…who thought it was harder than usual??

I thought it was easier than from what I’ve heard the other ones are like.

I wasnt sure about the sum involving a mean of 74 and standard deviation of 2 as well.

What did the rest of you write for it?

AP Stats ftw! It actually was useful. If you’ve taken any stats that’s an insanely easy question.

Also, still no details, as on the West Coast they’re not even in the testing rooms yet.

I think I got 6 times for that one.

^ I got 6 intersections, just graphed the two

Also I got only mean because the median and STD do not necessarily increase when u add a number higher than the mean and remove the lowest number.

You just graphed and counted.

What about the one for Mean, Median, and Standard Deviation?
I said only Mean.

@Daddy1

Let’s assume a case where all the grades of the set were 75 (the given mean was somewhere around that right?)
Therefore, the standard deviation is 0.

When u add 95 to the set and remove one 75, the standard deviation is obviously more than 0 now.

If 9 of the scores are 83.3 and 1 of them is a 0 then after dropping the 0 and adding 95, standard deviation would DECREASE.

I’m pretty sure the main question asked which of them would definitely increase. Either way though, if the 95 is the same amount away as the lowest score standard deviation would stay the same.

it said increase. and i think it only intersected 4 times, 2 of the 6 u counted were before January 1

What about the problem asking about the volume of the cone decrease by 1/2. Did you guys get 14.something?

@Daddy1
The question said which of the following MUST increase (not change). The mean must always increase if you remove the lowest score & add in one that’s higher than the mean (which I think was given to be 78.6), BUT it’s possible to either increase or decrease the standard deviation. It would decrease if you had nine 87.3’s and one 0 originally. It would increase if you had all 87.3’s originally.

can anyone explain the last question for me on the test:
f(a-1)=-1 f(a)=0 f(a+1)=1… what is f(a+2)

@runallday4:
I got 14.3 for the cone.
