*The Official Orientation Thread*

Hey class of 2009! Post up your thoughts, comments, experiences, or anything else about orientation for those who have already attended!

it was fun, every night is a late night, good food in westwood, lots of presentations to attend. lots of walking

Heh...yup. Each night was really late. came back at like 2am 3 am ish due to the activities.

I was kinda scared of the statistics that they gave us though....I think you guys know what I'm talking about...

How early did your days start?

kt1317: for the first day, like 8ish obviously; 2nd day+3rd day depends on if you want breakfast and if u want to attend certain workshops (imo you should take advantage of everything they offer)

overall i really enjoyed the orientation, things i learned were how crazy the walking is =P thank god the second day focuses on just staying at the reshalls are. the food was really good and meeting people was fun.

i especially liked the 3rd day tour, it seemed to make you feel really a part of the bruin family

it seems like a lot of work was put into the orientation -- those OCs really worked their butt off; much appreciated!

the scavenger hunt was a pain in the ass haha -- i must have sweated a full gallon; but its the experience+tradition that counts!

what was the latest u guys went to sleep on day 1 +2 ? for me it was like 2am and 3am

statistics? like how many people don't make it through their first semester?

im thinking hes referring to all the info about people having sex and not using condoms and whatnot

ah

+characters

Can someone please fill me in on these "scary" statistics?

So I'm curious... Why does it take 3 (very) full days to Orientate Freshmen, and yet only a single day for us Transfer Students? Other then say Placement tests, I'd be curious to know what else they cut out (besides the obvious things that are just for fun) of our orientation that Freshmen have.

oh shizz yea orientation was definitely a blast. there is nothing you should miss. every night you come back late. tour is fun but im not gonna spoil the fun. scavenger was really good cuz u sweat and stuff. i love going up the hill to sproul every day. =)

haha but it was so tiring!

Going up the hill wasn't too bad. Hedrick is the worst, but I could live with it. Too bad I'm in De Neve Plaza so I won't get the full hill experience. :)

This should be a lesson to anybody planning to commute... It's 4:43 in the morning and getting ready to start the drive to UCLA for my orienatation. :) At the moment I really wish I was in the dorms.

haha the "hill experience"

Orientation was FUN! It's fun to stay out late! I was surprised by the "coolness" of Westwood. Orientation Definitely makes the transition more comfortable. The food at UCLA is VERY good. Everything is fresh. At my brother's college, they served milk in a bag! He jokes about it all the time. Definitely helpful to see the size of the dorms, so i know what to set my shrinking machine dial to for my hedrick triple :) and i've got my hiking boots for the "full hill experience" :) haha that is pretty funny!

im a little scared for orientation...

can someone describe how they let u choose your classes and how much guidance they will give you and stuff, because im just REALLY lost....thanks..

is there a list anywhere of what to bring?

Do not be scared... unless u are scared of other people. the counselors are very helpful. just make sure u know when to meet them. u wont need to sign up for classes until the last day so until then u should attend as many work shops as you can.

yea umm bring an alarm clock, bring lots of cloths cuz u will need to change often, as u will sweat like 2 gallons. bring some money but it is not necessary. bring a very comfortable pair of shoes to walk (ie not high heels etc). bring paper and pen/pencil to take info notes. a pair of slippers for showering is optional. last but not least, bring your toothbrush, toothpaste, cup, any make up (if u are a girl).

pillow, bed sheets and shower towels are provided though i have to say im glad i brought my own cuz the one they gave me had yellow stains...

"as u will sweat like 2 gallons"

haha so true westow, i sweated 2 gallons on the scavenger hunt alone

however i think shower slippers are essential.....the bathroom floor is gross - just think about how millions of different feet have stepped and showered on that floor -- i think it was my OC who explained that someone once got like a bad sickness/disease cause she showered without slippers and happened to have an open wound on her foot

WoW....my pillows and sheet were perfectly clean and brand new.
