so any decisions coming up ? btw what are all your stats?

^We are in the US. My S of '13 takes the SAT in October & applies later this year. So, far he has a 219 on the PSAT (corresponds to about a 2270 on the SAT) and a 4.0 GPA. He will have 11 APs by graduation from one of the better high schools in the US. How about you?

well my stats are pretty average I guess , 2200 SAT 1 , 2300 SAT 2 , straight A’s in O and A levels… nothing unusual

^ Those are good stats, but unusual is not (so good). What major and to which colleges did you apply?

A few ivy’s and a few of the other top ones like Stanford, MIT etc you know… trying my luck … and for engineering mostly …

I almost forgot about CC, LOL. Aaaah, when the going gets busy…

Never mind, hope you all had a great January (I did alhumdulillah)!

So far, filing my fin aid apps and they’re a huge pain in…umm…some very wrong places.

Gave my SAT Math II repeat.

And also learnt I’ve won a couple of Cambridge honors (one top of the World and two top in my country)!! So yea, still tryin to digest that. But honestly speaking, do you think it boosts my chances of acceptance or are these Cambridge awards too ubiquitous to be significant?

BTW, am a little surprised to read this, so can someone please clarify how someone from Roots got into NYU (aye, even if Abu Dhabi) with a full scholarship? I thought NYU was too mean to offer fin aid to internationals :S

NYU Abu dhabi gives out colleges and sponsor campus stays like insaneee. The Sheikh that sponsors it is really generous.

Guys I recently heard that someone from BDC(beaconhouse defence campus lahore) got into Stanford(early action) with a very low SAT score.Is this true?.Can anyone verify this?.Or is it just another made up crazy fairytale?.

Titan666, Those are some crazy competitive schools. Are you not applying to anything less competitive? My S’13 will probably apply to a couple of the top schools, but also less competitive schools, such as Texas A&M where he knows he can get in easily.

true but the less competitive schools are not that generous with financial aid, so even if I get in it wont be of any use …

^ There are alot of LACs which are quite generous in terms of Financial Aid.

And even with less competitive ones you can apply for Scholarships–like Richmond’s Scholars program.

The guy who got into stanford from my school had a sat of 21 something-high but not THAT high. His everything else is brilliant though.

^ Proving again, that once an applicant with a good GPA is over 2100 on the SATs (without any subscores below 650/690), it becomes more about, ECs and essays than anything else.

Nobody answered my question about the Cambridge awards, but I’ll give it another shot anyway:
I’m no longer in school and am planning to give A-levels privately, I’m working full-time. I got 4 As in AS (commerce), 7A*s in IGs (science concentration), gave my SAT IIs in Math II Phy n Chem, so would it be considered a major academic faux pas if I give only 3 A levels in Math, Business and Eco? :S

I wanted to do Further Math in edexcel, but it turns out I can’t register in CIE and Edexcel in one session privately :/

@leo118:

I am not familiar with the O and A levels,so my advice could be off. However, what I can say is that Adcoms expect to see applicants take the most rigorous courseloads with classes of the highest level of difficulty offered at an applicant’s school. The high school guidance counselors indicate if this is the case or not, in their letters of rec. So, if there are other kids in Pakistan who are not dropping down to 3 A levels, then you will be seen at a disadvantage, compared to them. As far as switching from science to commerce is concerned, that is not usually a problem, as long as you are not applying to some engineering school. If you are applying to an LAC, that may work to your advantage.

some LAC’s are definitely ‘more’ generous but only a few like Lafayette and Swarthmore offer engineering programs …

@perazziman yea thats true, once you hit 700+ in all sections it’s ok.
There was this guy who graduated from Columbia who opened a consultation in karachi said that 700+ in all sections is just like a numbered requirement, a 2250 is not that much different from a 2140 in admissions.

what if its just a little less than 700 ? I have a 680 in my CR :(

anybody had their Princeton interview yet?

@TiTaN666 I have a 680 in CR too-retook my SAT Jan 28 though
