@UKdude. Well, i would just go there because my friends would be there. Thats kind of dumb i guess. Also, the American universities to an extent are better than UK (what i think). The problem with the EU is that almost all universities offer courses in their native tongue, and unless any of us can like just flip their lives to french or german, that wont be practical.

UK offers in English, obviously. :D

Hey can any one suggest some engineering safeties that have good aid packages for internationals. Also does any UC give financial aid to internationals? Last year lots of ppl got into UCs … but did any of them good financial aids? Coz I have heard UCs are not all that generous :P

@imgallagher Transcripts are your O/A-Levels Certificates … plus some schools also require mid year transcripts … these are your school grades …

I think British schools have the prestige anlge covered, Cambridge and Oxford etc are old institutions with lots of prestige.

Next, I do not think UK is cheaper. For international students
studying engineering or computer science at Cambridge, just tution comes to BP 14,000 per year (approx. US $ 28,000).

[Undergraduate Admissions: Cambridge Admissions Office - Costs to consider](<a href=“Study at Cambridge | University of Cambridge”>Study at Cambridge | University of Cambridge)

Finally if you are studying engineering, you may want to ask yourself, how many graduates from British universities start their own techology companies vs. US universities? How many patents do their professors file? What are the chances of being offered a job after graduating? Then, ask yourself, who would you like to attend school with and learn from? In the case of engineering American schools unsually have an advantage over British universities. In other majors, British schools may have an advantage over American schools.

@UKdude84
Because I like them more than UK universities and then there’s also specifics like undergrad research, social setup etc.

So who’s applying ED and where? and for what?

@PAKISTAN2012 - Still deciding … Dartmouth Proly

cool, for what though?

And where are you from and background?

@PAKISTAN2012 UPenn most probably and for Jerome Fisher M&T, what about you?

btw who else is taking SAT this Sat?

S takes SAT Oct 1. PSAT Oct 12. Did any of you take the PSAT?

Cool, I’m probably applying to brown for economics! @perazziman? yeah i took the psat in 10th and 11th grade, if thats what you were asking, required by our school actually.

PAKISTAN2012, On average, how many NMSFs/ commendeds at your school each year? Are international students eligible for scholarships? Do you have classes in AP Physics, Chemistry, statistics, Biology, calculus AB/BC CS etc at your school?

My S had a 67 CR, 61 M, on last year’s PSAT. He tanked on the writing section 5X. We are hoping he does better this time around. Any suggestions on how to improve on the Writing score?

We have one in sophomore year and one in junior. I dont think anyone really applies for scholarships though from here. Yeah we have most of the APs including the ones you’ve mentioned above. But our school basically requires it as a practice for the SAT, not anything else.

The writing section on the psat doesn’t include an essay, so i guess just a bit more practice with the questions. Are you aiming for a scholarship or something?

Finalists in America get automatic admission and merit scholarships, such as free rides (all paid, tution, boarding, lodging) at schools such as, Texas A&M, Bama (U of Alabama), Arizona, Oklahoma etc. Schools such as USC and BU give automatic 50% discounts on tution. These scholarships are worth about $100k over four years. So, they are pretty sweet. Therefore, S is taking the SAT as practice for the PSAT!

Unfortunately, sophomore year PSAT scores do not count. One must score above the cut off in junior year in November. I remember reading that international students could apply too. It must be for overseas Americans.

I have heard that MIT and Ivy league schools, generally expect business major applicants to have AP Computer science, Calculus AB and Statistics. Is that true? S will have Calc and Computer Science I & II, but no Statistics.

I’m also taking SAT this saturday

How’s the Prep Glaedr?
