[ul]
[]SAT I & II or ACT: 800IIc 690Phy (option #2)
[]GPA, Class Rank/Size: 3.91uw, top 5% of 65

Major awards/ECs:

Note: I live in a 3rd world country, so I have VERY limited resources. There are no co-curricular clubs, no national academic competitions (no IMO team! :(), virtually no job opportunities for teenagers, no research, etc.

[ul]
[li]IGCSE/GCE Honor Roll (a Big Thing :p)[/li][]Lots of math. I've done (or am doing) Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Real Analysis and Complex Analysis.
[]5 years of programming – C/C++, PHP, DHTML, SQL, etc. Lots of projects, and an award. Slightly unrelated: I'll be taking the A+ Certificate exam in a few months.

Subjective:
[ul]
[]Essays: I got a lot of great feedback.
[]Teacher Recs: One was pretty good (English teacher), and one was amazing (Math/Physics/Mechanics/CompSci teacher). Unfortunately MIT didn't get (or care about getting) the latter.
[]Counselor Rec: Very good.
[]Interview: I had a great time. My EC rocked! She was so interesting and easy to talk to.
[]Hook (if any): First generation college student; tried to do a lot with little resources; math; published writer... I don't know!
[/ul]
Personal:
[ul]
[]Location (State or Country): Jordan
[]Ethnicity & Gender: White male
[]Major strength/weakness: Math, programming and writing are my strengths. My major weaknesses I believe were my SATs and maybe lack of proper ECs?
[]Your thoughts on your decision: It sucks being rejected. :(
[/ul]
Any other comments:
Why didn't MIT get my science teacher rec and/or my midyear grade report?! More importantly, why didn't they care about getting them? It's really not cool to evaluate an incomplete application... Ah well. Life goes on.

Good luck to those rejected and congratulations to those accepted. :)

[/ul]
Subjective:
[ul]
[]Essays: I thought they were good, although on reading them all over again I repeated the use of many words.
[]Teacher Recs: Both had to have been good – my physics teacher loves me and my old geography teacher thinks the world of me
[]Counselor Rec: I guess it was good, and my math teacher said it wasn’t bad(principal sent it)
[]Interview: Didn’t have one –couldn’t quite work out the logistics due to various exams including first levels of Olympiads and preboard exams
[]Hook (if any): Well, I sent in some ideas I had – mostly in theoretical physics – and combined with all those projects, I felt I had a reasonable chance. Also, I’m really comfortable with computer, esp. hardware and almost single-handedly set up a computer lab n my school out of the old, junked computers they had (they asked me to do it). Mentioned it in my app, but in retrospect I think I should’ve gotten my computer teacher to send in a letter. Didn’t do it earlier because I thought MIT didn’t want any material except what the application specified.
[/ul]
Personal:
[ul]
[]Location (State or Country): India
[]Ethnicity & Gender: Asian (Indian) Male
[]Major strength/weakness: Projects, recs, SAT scores
[li]Your thoughts on your decision: I think I should’ve got the interview done somehow, and gotten my English teacher send in a rec to do some damage control about my grades – she doesn’t give anything higher than 80-81 although she thinks the same papers would get 95+ in the boards. Problem compounded by a low SATII Writing score. [/li][/ul]
Any other comments: None. The post is too long as it is. (Sorry, I just copied the important parts of my resume)

WOW!!

Now I've even given up hope for the waitlist :D

I am appalled.... :(

O shash...! Can't believe you didn't get in...! :(

On retrospect i just remembered that i also mentioned in my app that i'm takking coachin for the IITJEE. My rationale behind tking the classes and mentioning them was that they were the most advanced courses available to me - I dint have acces to A-levels, AMCs, IB, etc. I didnt even know until about a month ago that Indians can even appear for A-level exams. I really hope the adcoms didnt think i wanted to go to the IITs more, for I dont. I dont want to spend 4 whole years in a system i dont believe in. Life Sucks

what's there to censor?

ok. Where are those accepted indians????????????????????
