• Essays: My essays were very personal but they also had an over arching theme that was universal and related to my course of study. It wasn’t contrived; it was simply my soul put to paper. If the reader thought it was contrived or that that type of view did not fit on campus, then…well, w/e, I thought it was good.
• Teacher Recs: Excellent Biology Recommendation; unsure of the others, although I think they were very good.
• Counselor Rec: Heard from another counselor that they were excellent.
• Hook (if any): Probably the essay.

• Major strength/weakness: Strength: Essays; definitely valedictorian status helped push me in; well rounded, included a submission on art and a major philosophy paper that I wrote in high school. Weakness: No research opportunities; no wunderkind “Westinghouse prize” or anything major like that.
• Your thoughts on your decision: I never expected to get in. Besides the fact that I was asian, the rank 4 guy applied early action (and this guy was like major physics buff and major music buff…he was extremely talented and I’m pretty sure he had competitive scores, though not sure on the Core SAT…SAT IIs were nearly identical to mine) and he was flat out rejected. Some of the other people I know that got in had so many science competitions and essay contests under their belt that I felt ashamed to even send an application; I was just really passionate, and I’m glad Stanford saw my commitment and my zeal. </p>

<p>Any other comments: Go STANFORD. I’ve always loved California, and Stanford is kick ass.</p>
