i dunno about the system right now. I got in and am more excited about that then anything, but ive got a couple friends w/ better stats than me who didn't get in or got deffered, and then 3 people who did get in, one of whom has a building named after her family, and two people whose parents r on the board of trustees/made donations, none of whom are that bright. don't get me wrong, i'm ecstatic i got in, but it just doesn't seem fair 2 a lotta people.

SAT: 2140. Math 790, Critical Reading 630, Writing 720
SAT II: Math IIC 800, Biology E 770, US History 720 (I got destroyed), Chemistry 730 (as a Sophomore. The other three were from when I was a Junior.)
ACT: Composite 35, English 35, Math 34, Reading 33, Science 36, English/Writing combined 33.
GPA: Unweighted (not including Freshman year) 3.71. Including Freshman year 3.56.

Other stats: Uhh, AMC? I got a 105.5 and missed half a day of school. The AIME however was a waste of 3 hours; I got a 0.

Essays: My short answers were decent, I guess. My big essay needed work.
Teacher recommendations: While nothing a teacher says about you in a recommendation will get you into Stanford by itself, a negative letter may keep you out. Mine were positive recommendations, and that's all that matters.
Counselor recommendation: Positive recommendation.

General comments: I would just like to say that the overall quality of the Stanford applicant pool is staggering. I honestly don't know how an admissions committee can pick and choose between so many fine candidates, and I am having a hard time understanding how I was deferred when so many other incredible applicants were rejected outright. I know I could have easily been rejected as well, and I am just grateful that I still have a chance, even if it is a small one.

Anyway, congratulations to everyone who got in; you all deserved it. For those of you that were rejected and still feel bad about it, don't. If you thought you had a chance at Stanford, I have no doubt that you will end up at a great school when all is said and done. And as for us deferred applicants, all we can do is keep working hard and hope for the best.

Sincerely,
Brexford

Holy ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think admissions at the top schools are random. Everyone has good stats and good awards. It really comes down to the essays, ESPECIALLY at Stanford.

Yes, but the way the admissions committee perceives these essays can seem random. A great essay to one person may not be as great to another, and that "not being so great" quality is seemingly enough for an applicant to be deferred or even rejected (60% rejected early is pretty insane).

Does anyone have any official stats for this year's SCEA Stanford?

Thank you! ^_^

wow, i think it just comes down 2 uniqueness. i got in w/ stats that many got rejected with, very good SAT's pretty good gpa, really hard schedule, but i got lucky in that i have a talent for singing and football, and there arebn't many guys who sing opera and play football. the truth is, so many applicants r so strong, that it comes down 2 finding a way 2 make urself stick out. Good luck 2 all the defferred, and to the rejected, ive seen what u posted, u guys will do great wherever u end up

Did anyone who got in submit the supplemental art portfolio? Did it help?

i submitted a music cd, which on its own probably wouldn't have been that much of a help, but music was a huge part of my app and what i wrote 2 of the short essays about, so i think it helped them 2 kno how serious i was and that i could actually perform on a college level.

as to diamondtt, or whoever was talking about asian males being at a disadvantage
of course im just one case but im an asian male and got rejected
2240 SAT, 800 math iic, 800 latin, 750 bio, 3.98 uw GPA
...and im also a 4 year starter for my school's lacrosse team, state all star team as a junior, and captain as a junior....and my essays dealt with my unique aspects as far as athletics go...so maybe u would change ur opinion slightly?
...btw im absolutely crushed by the rejection...not even a deferral...*sigh

seriously man
you can't really say that asians dont have a disadvantage

if you are white, then you have connections or a legacy- generally
if you are a URM, then you get a huge advantage

if you are asian, you are set to a higher standard

these are just general stereotypes and there are always exceptions- but there is a reason these stereotypes exist

Yea, ignorance. At the very most, one can get a slight advantage from being a legacy (but only of the undergrad school, as my friend was crushed to find out with her referral->rejection last year, even though both of her parents went to Stanford law), being an URM,and IF there is any effect on asian males it must be small. Do you really think that all white people have relatives who wentto stanford or something? Even if they did, that isn't that impressive- as the history goes back, the school's caliber is less impressive, and it's at it's seeming higest yet and rising today.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to cause any more drama, but really, it's just ignorance to correlate advantages and admission with race (URM or not). Sometimes I think this belief is just continued to make people feel better and find something to blame.

I am sorry though that you didn't get in :*(!!!

.... what!?!?! I'm white, and I want to know where these connections were!?!?!

Come on, Stanford is above race distinctions, and we should be, too.
Good luck to all of you!!!

if you want proof that being a URM doesnt help nearly as much as you think, look at my stats on page 7...
