The Official Thread For CAS Applicants Admitted to Poly 2015

Lol, the title of this is a bit jumbled but I didn't know how else to say it.
Okay, basically, I saw this happening for ED applicants and I want to get to the bottom of this.

Any extra comments: I had actually also applied to Poly separately and was accepted with a great scholarship. I prefer the school to NYU so I’m not upset =P

Uhhh…we have, like, the same username and credentials besides our act scores… Like, I teach piano and I am an internationally recognized marital artist…seriously ***, are you my long lost relative? Nottttt even kidding hahah

I got an email saying that they will send me admission information if I were to allow NYU to send them my application informaiton.

if anyone can expand on this topic more that would be greatly appreciated!
School reputation, culture, etc…
The offer just seems too out of the ordinary? Especially because I have encountered some people are are going to do engineering at NYU.

Intended Major: Computer Science
SAT I: 2040 (600V - 750M - 690W)
SAT IIs: 720 Math I, 800 Math II, 690 Physics
ACT:
GPA: 3.6 Unweighted. 3.83 Weighted. 90/100
Class Ranking: Top 25%
Your Essay, Supplements, Letters of Rec: Essay was about my volunteer work at a local hindu temple… kind of cliche for a school as diverse as NYU i guess. Personal Statements were probably above average, I had some very unique answers. I never read my Recs, but one was from my English teacher who is a “preferred” recommender for UMaryland so I guess it was very good. One from my AP Comp Sci teacher who explicitly stated I was his top student in the past TEN YEARS.
ECs, Honor, Awards: Asian Cultural Club, Math League, Computer League, Robotics, Science NHS, Literary Magazine Staff.
AP Classes: APUSH (4), Physics B (3), Physics C, Comp Sci, Gov and Pol, Calc AB.
Any extra comments: The e-mail stated I was a “better match” for Poly, probably due to the high discrepancy between my Math and Verbal scores on the SAT, involvement in robotics, and apparent preference for Physics rather than other sciences. Or “better match” is probably just a euphamism for “you suck. cas is too good for you. go to poly”. Got total 22k scholarship for Poly.

cctony NYU did not have its own engineering program until it bought poly >_>

What about CS majors that got into CAS? (if any did…?) Shouldn’t they be included in the topic title as interested to see"

@cctony: Poly’s reputation is limited to the 5 boroughs of NYC, which isn’t a bad thing at all because this is where a large chunk of construction, electrical, automotive, IT, software and other engineering-type companies are based. Poly has good connections in the city and you probably won’t have a hard time finding a job.

According to USN&WR, Poly’s undergraduate programs are ranked 153rd among all National Universities. To put this into perspective, it’s ranked lower than Stevens Institute of Technology, SUNY-Stony Brook, NJIT, Suny-Albany, and around the same place as Pace University.

This ranking seems to be skewed lower than it should be due to Poly drawing students mainly from the Brooklyn/Queens area, and the lack of national exposure. The NYU affiliation should help Poly get some national recognition.

As far as culture goes, Poly is at heart a pure engineering and technology school. The students are pure technical thinkers. Robotics, particularly FIRST, is big at Poly. This is just what i’ve seen and heard from visiting last week.
