The official thread for HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2012!

:)

I live historic fiction. I’m not into one author. I liked “My Brother Sam Is Dead” and I just read “Water for Elephants.” I tend to like books about the Holocaust and I’m going to read the book “A Thread of Grace”. It’s about Italy in WW2 and how some saved 40,000 Jews. Interesting when your half Italian and Jewish.

I recently read Water for Elephants as well, but I think it was more hyped up than it should have been. It was definitely a cute story, but it didn’t hit me the way that the Kite Runner or some other books did.

I thought for sure you’d list some playwrights though, which is why I asked about authors.

Haha I do know that rchhay, no worries :stuck_out_tongue: I was just wondering whether he minded going to an early college HS (I know some, like Guilford, accept students during high school while some, like mine, only accept rising 9th graders. It depended on the types in GA).

Oh yeah, I haven’t read many plays LOL. I act more for film then Theater and I would like to go into screenwriting too. I was confused on some things on Water for Elephants, but I didn’t know much about the circus. It was good overall and had a good ending.

I pretty much only read Romeo and Juliet, lol.

Yeah Met, I wasn’t planning on doing that. I’m going to apply to Simon’s Rock prob and see what happens. I need to talk to my counselor though. I have a new one this year, my old one liked the idea and was just for 9th grade. I have no early high schools by me either, :(

Yeah, they tried recruiting me for the Early College High School program, which is literally across the street from the high school I’m currently going to. I didn’t bother applying though, because I felt I wouldn’t have a true high school experience because it takes place on a community college.

I’ve since talked to some people from there, and I guess there might have been a upside in me applying/attending, but there aren’t any sport programs. They were supposed to work with my high school on this, but it never really happened, as far as I’m aware.

Really? Plays are actually quite fun to read. :')

Yeah I’m still not sure if I want to go to Simon’s Rock, I would miss the whole high school experience. I may start reading some plays, but never was intrested in it.

Well, if you change your mind about it now, you can always change your mind again, because they accept applications to just skip senior year, right? Missing senior year is probably the worst year to miss, though. It’s the only year where you actually get to have school pride…

I think you should definitely try for the one at USC, though… Although, I’m probably biased because I was born in LA. Simon’s Rock will have more people around the same age, but I think that might take away from the college experience as well.

Did you enjoy Shakespeare? Are you into comedy? Language? There’s so many plays out there. By the way, check out Script Frenzy. If you want to start screenwriting, then you mind as well do it where there’s tons of people to support you.

I’m a 2013er, but I don’t care.

I just come by because one of my friends used this site. I only look at the AP Tests forum and maybe HSL, just to get a feel of what courses I should take in high school.

Yes, they do accept applications sophomore and junior year. I wanted to apply this year and see what happens. I understand about senior year and I’m not positive if I want to miss all the high school experiences. USC’s program skips your senior year and Simon’s Rock is the only program which lets you skip two years of high school. My grades are lots of A’s and B’s, but it said you have to have mostly A’s for USC’s Residence Honors Program.

I did not enjoy Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet) and I could hardly understand it, must less act it. I like drama and comedies. Thanks and I will check the website out. I do have a lot of intrests though.

Hey 2wenty, your welcome to post here. :)

Actually, the link you sent to me said “USC’s Resident Honors Program,” which makes a little more sense. Anyway, I’m thinking about applying for the heck of it, but then I realize I would just be wasting their time and mine, not to mention the $65 application fee. I think I would have a decent shot at getting in though, seeing as I’ve yet to get a “B.”

Shakespeare wasn’t that hard, I mean, for the most part it was just sexual. If you want to try reading a comedy by him, just try one of the plays that doesn’t have a character’s name in it. For example, “The Tempest” is a comedy.

And hello, 2wentyEight!

USC Resident Honors Program is a program where you skip your senior year. This is the NAME of the early entrance program. For instance the West Georgia program is CALLED The Advanced Academy is Georgia. Each program has its own name. Good job in not getting the B! Do you take honors classes or just IB prep classes? Sorry but I don’t know how your school does it.

I understood Romeo and Juliet, but I had to use SparkNotes to understand it more. I got a high B on the test, so not that bad. Do people buy plays like books at stores? I may want to read Barefoot in the Park, I did a monologue for Theater from that play and it looks good. :)

PS- I’m also going to read Those Who Save Us and The Book Thief. They’re both Holocaust type of books.

Thanks for defining what a “name” is.

Are you being sarcastic or are you for real? lol

The fact that you had to ask that question…

early_college: I LOVED LOVED LOVED The Book Thief. It was such a sad book :[ It was narrated from a really interesting perspective (Death) and there was always a touch of irony in his words. “It just kills me how humans die sometimes…”

rch: I asked that question, because I thought you didn’t know that was link to the program.

Fairy: I haven’t read it yet, but glad to hear it’s good.

Because people go around thanking you all the time for defining basic words?

Whatever, I’m out. :')
