Yeah, Ann Arbor is supposed to be good…

Very fun to have a Turkish thread! My D’s are half Turkish. One attends Bowdoin and the other will go to Williams next fall. Unfortunately, Turks (and other int’ls)tend to only look at larger universities in the States and miss out on the wonderful educational opportunities at LAC’s.

I just heard of these names I think they need to increase their reputation although they are very good universities.

Sorry for late reply FURKANK I got into Emory, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Oberlin, Colgate, and Carleton. The last three met 100% of my need, and I am about to commit to Carleton. I am also waitlisted at Amherst, Williams, and Stanford.

That’s great, cgmom! Unfortunately, you are correct. In Turkey and my country (Azerbaijan), people often look at the ‘name schools’, and most of them care about prestige, so they have something to ‘show off’ with when meeting their family/friends. LACs have great reputation if you are looking for a graduate degree or a job placement - in other words, they have good reputation when the reputation actually matters. They pretty much don’t do any research, so their names are not as widely known to general public (when reputation/prestige doesn’t matter. Unless you want to brag ).

@Alone

Would you mind if I ask your stats? :)

I’m Turkish as well.
