Every post on here about majors seems to be about business, econ, math, and science. I know there are people on here majoring in art, history, anthropology, ethnic studies, etc. If so, post in here to discuss.

Thanks for making the topic, Snooks86! Do foreign languages count? :)

Foreign languages definitely count. They’re usually classed in the humanities dept. Which one are you studying?

Sounds good! I’m majoring in Japanese language, so I’m hoping to transfer to UCLA from my community college. They have a great Japanese Studies program.

Spanish/Portuguese ftw! :D

history/poli sci

also heavy interests in Anthro, Theatre, and Philosophy

Jeremybeach, I forgot – did you ever get everything straightened out with Moorpark College?

Anthro/History/Native American Indian major here.

:D My three years at UC Davis will be packed.

What kind of stuff do you guys want to do when you transfer, activity wise.

Sounds interesting!

Well, I’d love to work on campus in the East Asian Language department. I know UCLA has a library, so I’d like to work there. Maybe I can be a TA for the elementary language courses during my senior year.

And then there’s always the option of study abroad… but I don’t know if I want to do that until after I get my BA.

I think you should definitely do your study abroad while you’re working on your BA. Why wouldn’t you? You have so many options. I know UCLA has like 6 different programs at different Japanese campuses and it’ll give you a better sense of the culture, people and language.

I want to study abroad in Chile and Ghana and maybe New Zealand. I want to volunteer with youth since I want to be a teacher, participate outdoors as much as I can with the snowboard/ski club, Outdoor Adeventures, and join the rowing team. Also plan on joining the Black Student Union and the Native American Student Union.

I was actually thinking about maybe even doing my Masters in Japan, but I’ll have to look into Masters programs for Japanese Language/Literature at universities there. It’ll be interesting!

Anthropology major, right here!

Depending on where I go (Hopefully either Cal or UCLA,) I want to study abroad (I feel as though someone majoring in cultural anthropology NEEDS to go elsewhere for a bit.) I also want to get involved in a few clubs and have as much fun as I can- I’ve got two years of boring community college life (or lack thereof) to make up for!

I went to different high school and didn’t get too involved in the activities, so when I tranfer, it’ll be my way of making up for lost time.

Hiro, as for going to graduate school for Japanese, you don’t have that many options. Here are the schools I found.

U of Hawaii-Manoa
NYU
SF State
Cal
Columbia
U of MN- Twin Cities
U of MI- Ann Arbor
U of WI- Madison
U of MA- Amherst
U of WA- Seattle

Go Snooks! You’re on top of it!

Lol, my mom and sister say I should be a counselor of some sort. I always pick out their classes and know what they need to take for their requirements.

History major here, with an alternative major of Global Studies. I only applied to UCLA.

UCLA has the best history dept followed by Cal, UCD, and UCSB.

Sociology major here, I only applied to UCSD, UCI, and UCSC. GPA - 3.1ish. I doubt I’ll get into UCSD at this point after hearing they don’t use the personal statement even if the applicant is borderline.

Thanks for the info, Snooks! Well, maybe I could do my MA at Cal. They have a very impressive Asian Languages program as well.
