@loyshi, I applied as MCB. I also live about an hour away haha is my first time going to CAL day so I’m pretty excited. I’m just afraid of falling in love with this school just to get rejected in two weeks haha.

@ucastell
I know what you mean. To fall in love only to get rejected later. I would hate to be the 20% that gets rejected…

Edit: Only about 20% of people in TAP gets rejected. IF only berkeley accepts 80% of the people. lol

@Loyshi, I know! Even though I’m a member of the TAP program I don’t want to get my hopes up, because I can easily be put in that 20% of people rejected from the program haha. What other schools are you applying to?

@ucastell
My berkeley rep is Gina. She’s keeps telling me that I’m pretty much in, but we need to see it in writing on our computer screen.

I got in SD and SB last month during both their 1st batch. Pending on B, LA, and Davis. At least I know i won’t be school-less next year? You?

No Cal Day for me…I’m 6 hours away from the campus :-S

And my CC doesn’t even have a Berkeley TAP program :((

Lol

dang lucky, my CC does’nt have a Berkeley TAP programs either :l

About the TAP, what are the qualifications for getting into this program? Does one need to be 1st generation college student to get in? I think I saw it on their website, but it doesn’t say much about their requirements. And how do you apply for it?

@lkm291
From what I know (i might be incorrect), you just have to be 1 of 3 criteria: 1st gen, Low income or Minority. A lot of people on CC say that’s invitational only, but I got in by asking about TAP when the rep came to my college during my 2nd semester.

@Loyshi Oh. … Thanks for the info! Well, is too late for me. But is still nice to know they have this program.

thanks for starting this thread! anyone went to Cal’s shadow day last Saturday? was it good?

@Loishy, that’s awesome! we pretty much applied to the same schools, except I didn’t apply to SB haha. I also already got into UCSD during the first “wave” but I’m not considering going there too far plus I heard is kind of boring… I also applied to Cornell and Johns Hopkins but I know I’m not getting in haha. Good luck to you, the only thing that gives me hope is the TAP program that pretty much helps you a lot, I don’t know if you went to the meeting at UCB for the TAP program, and the two people giving info told us that TAP students get a special code on their app or something like that haha. Let’s just be positive :)

@ucastell
I went to the meeting and they checked you in. The room was a bit cramp and the venting system was horrible… It was so hot in there, even though it was raining that day. If you didn’t go and get checked in, I don’t think you get the benefit of that special code on our apps. Plus, if there’s a problem with our app, TAP allows the reader to contact our TAP rep, which is also the reason why we had to send a copy to them.

If I get in, I’m taking my friend who told me about TAP out for dinner

I get the feeling that my lack of substantial ECs will cause Berkeley to reject me or accept me for spring.

I’ve been chanced before, but I’d like some other people’s perspectives on my chances, if you guys don’t mind:

3.83 GPA

philosophy major(Under Arts & Humanities at Berkeley)

Pre-reqs aren’t available at my CC(Or at most, for that matter), so this won’t be an issue

So what do you guys think of my chances?

Being deferred to spring is kind of scary.

@Cayton

You didn’t mention your personal statements, do you think they’re pretty strong or so-so? I think you have a good chance though! Arts and Humanities have a high acceptance.

@ocnative
I’d say my personal statements were so-so.

@ocnative
Does being in Arts and Humanities makes a difference? I thought all L&S (Art & Hum., Biological Science, Math & Physical Science, Social Science and etc…) read together.

@Cayton
The only issue i see is your lack of EC and PS (since you’re doubting it). GPA wise i doubt you have a problem.
When you say lack of EC, minimal amount or none at all?

@Loyshi
My ECs are minimal. Just did some volunteering at my local food bank.

@Loyshi

Those departments each have different acceptance rates. Arts and Humanities is 42% while Social Sciences is 23% and so on. One is more selective than the other.

@Cayton
that’s better than me in terms of EC
