*The official UCLA 4.0 (or 3.5+) rejects thread*

Hey Dudes, so I've noticed a bunch of people have gotten rejected from UCLA with GREAT scores, many with perfect 4.0's. Obviously we all had something lacking and in the effort of finding out what it is I propose we discuss what WE think we lacked and compare it to others.

Personally, I think my biggest failure was being OOS and International. I think I fullfilled all the prereq's, but it's actuallly hard to tell since many classes have different names and such. So yeah, I don't know. The only class I can think of that might have messed me up was the C++ class they wanted (math major). My cc didn't offer it so I took Java instead. Oh well....

Denied with a 4.0 here! hah

3.7 reject.

4.0 reject.

REJECTED, HOW THE HELL?!

Current School: UC Irvine

Current Major: Business Economics

Applied Major: Business Economics @ UCLA (I was a UC-UC transfer applicant)

GPA: 3.933

Extra Curricular Activities: UCI Entrepreneur Society Active Member since Fall '08,
Currently Participating in SCORE (Counselor’s to America’s Small Business) workshops with certificate upon completion. Dean’s Honor’s list all quarters. I’ve done Extensive Volunteer-work throughout High School (They allowed you to list this on the application, but I don’t know how much they care about it)

Work: Internet Marketing and Sales position at a Small Business for ~4.2 years (2006-present, 12 hours a week)…grew the business by over 30% in terms of profits.

Prereqs: All Done.

Essays: 8-9/10

it’s either your major was extremely competitive or that you didn’t complete your pre recs.

in either case sorry mates

this thread is too funny haha looking forward to seeing everyone who got rejected

I’m not sure about being an international would be that much of a disadvantage…If you are an international student at a California community college, I’m sure your chances are not that much worse than a local at a CCC. I’ve had a few friends who are international students but at a California CC that got in with 3.8s in impacted majors such as econ, psych with virtually no ECs and mediocre essays.

^Dude, my prereq’s were in progress, as in, I finish them all (w/ A’s btw) in like two weeks…and my major, math, is like the LEAST impacted major possible…I’m seriously completely stupefied. I’m starting to think my essays SUCKED except even my english teacher told me they were great…so yeah, I honestly have no theory regarding that.

I’m starting to believe the officers just pick the people out at random, or line all the 3.7+ people and then purposely deny half of them for kicks, for no reason whatsoever! grr…

Rejected

Major: Econ
GPA: 3.82
IGETC: left 1class before apply but will finish this spring
Preq: Done
Essay: 10/10

I am waiting for the UC Berkeley now…

Do i still have a chance to get in to Cal?

i was so frustrated…

one of my friend got accepted with 3.5 gpa math major

Rejected

Major:Biz-econ(UCLA) Alternate Math/Econ
GPA: 3.78
Pre-reqs: Completing Calc2 this semester
IGETC: Will be completed this semester.
TAP: (UCLA=Yes)
EC’s: Internships,work,clubs,honors society, etc
Essays: 8-9/10?

@ #10
course you still have a chance to get into Cal
hope you get in

‘shanahanyang’ thank you so much

what about you? admitted?

Rejected:

3.74 GPA
Psychology
NO TAP, IGETC done, and 1 prereq in progress (rest are done with A’s).

My theory: I sort of wrote on my app that I’m planning on taking philosophy prereqs for Berkeley over the summer…

you shouldn’t say that… at least you didn’t have to mention berkeley…i guess

Major: English
GPA: 3.82
IGETC: Almost Completed (1 final course IP)
No TAP

I speculate that my rejection likely stems from my failure to satisfy the foreign language prereq: “4th semester of one foreign language OR 2nd semester of one foreign language and two additional courses in foreign language or foreign literature.” I took two semesters of ASL, which I don’t believe counts.

Crossing my fingers that Berkeley wants me…

@ kghboy53: Well I didn’t mention Berkeley though. I just said that I would be taking 3 philosophy courses over the summer at a nearby CCC. These prereqs happen to be UCB phil prereqs (that aren’t offered at my CCC), but I never mentioned that they are UCB prereqs or Berkeley in general.

However, I’m sure the articulation specialist picked up on the fact that my PL courses for summer were all UCB prereqs…

Rejected! UCSD was my 1st choice so I’m not TOO bummed.

Major: Econ; Alt: PoliSci
GPA: 3.85+ (taking 11 units this semester & will be getting A’s in all)
Pre-reqs: All my school offered
IGETC: An art class short
TAP: No
EC’s: Above average
Essays: 11/10
Other: 1st gen, lower income, older student

I have a 3.5 GPA, though I haven’t got anything less than an A in the past two years. During that time, I’ve taken at least 12 units each semester, as well as one summer semester. IGETC certified. Also, I’m taking 16 units this semester. At this point, I’m just like, whatever, there is nothing I could have done in the past two years that would have changed the outcome.

Major:English
GPA: 3.5
Pre Reqs:Complete
IGETC: Complete
TAP: No
EC’s: average
Essays: I would say above average, had an English teacher proof read for me, and he thought they were good. Not to mention, I am an English major, and I think I write good essays, guess I’m wrong though.

USC or bust…

3.78 Communications study reject

Comm is sooo freakin impacted thats why. UGH
