The Official *UF* Class of 2019 Results Thread

Accepted to the 2015 Summer B term with only a 3.73 GPA calculated the way UF does it (weighted core)
Test scores:
ACT Composite: 32
English: 33
Math: 33
Reading: 33
Science: 30
SAT Composite 1980
Critical reading: 640
Math: 660
Writing: 680
I took 6 ap classes total and many honors classes. I was scared I’d be denied because many people say UF hates C’s and I got a C my freshman year in AP world history.
I had decent extracurriculars including National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, a variety of school service hour clubs, two sports but only participated in them my sophomore year, I volunteered at the mayo clinic all three summers between high school years, and had a part time job and worked about 10 hours a week my junior and senior years.
My essay I don’t remember being phenomenal, but I did rewrite it literally 8 times and had a college admissions rep from another university read it and help me tweak it to make it more interesting. With my GPA, I honestly thought I would be flat out denied so it was a pleasant surprise to be accepted.

@Mads1234‌
Do you know what you just did? A good service. Next year’s hopefuls will look at this thread when it’s already history and see comments like yours. For those with similar stats, who also think they’ll get “flat out rejected”, they can feel that all needed glimmer of hope. Last year’s thread was the same. If it weren’t for the “underdogs” who got accepted, well… Let’s just say my fingernails thank them.

For you to have an idea, my transcripts were littered with C’s and D’s,but then starkly contrasted with A+'s. US GPA is cruel dame, one D can do swift damage to your point average, as far as I can tell. As a matter of fact… In Portuguese class (which would be your equivalent of English Grammar) I believe I got an “F” at one point. Yeah, rough right? To be fair I didn’t know the language, but the stain is still there.
In the end, if I could send a message to the future Gators… Make a kick-ass profile, put your blood and soul into it, and it may be your salvation, as it was mine.

I got accepted in to the GDC @ Santa Fe, anybody else get this (I applied after deadline btw guys)?

I’m in, great job you guys and girls and gators.

When do we find out about merit scholarships or the honors program?

Accepted!

Accepted into Summer Term
1700 SAT
30 ACT (Not sure if they got it in time though, the status check said they did not)
3.7 UW GPA and 4.8 W GPA
200 Community Service Hours
STRONG Essay. I really went against what UF was looking for said UF couldn’t provide anybody the “Good Life”
IB course load
Bunch of clubs yet no leadership
Part time job
Legacy.

I’m thinking I got in due to IB and my essay. Apparently UF didn’t get my 30 ACT in time and I know a 1700 SAT is super low for UF’s standards. Just shows that their decisions are random and they truly look at the overall package!

As I recall, an invitation to apply to the honors program comes with your acceptance letter in the mail. If you want to apply, you have to submit another essay. And, unless you have credentials that are the best of the best, don’t hold out much hope for a scholarship–they don’t give many.

@Kazy11 ME TOO!!!

seriously tho… I’m so excited i just wanna find a roommate asap lol…

Well… I should put it out there, if there are any Engineering students who fancy living in the East Hall LLC, then I would be more than happy to be their roommate! One of the downsides of being an international student is the fact that I know absolutely no one. No friends from high-school, from the neighborhood, etc… And the “lone wolf” routine got boring in highschool.
It’s been almost seven years since I left the US and it’s high time that I go back.

Decision: Accepted (Summer B )
SAT: 1970 (did not submit)
SAT IIs: None
ACT: 31
GPA: 3.7 UW 5.19 Weighted (4.3-4.4 UF GPA, can’t remember which one it was)
Rank: School doesn’t rank, however I’m top 12% in my class

Major: Health Science
Essays: Wrote many essays, and narrowed it down to two when the deadline drew near. One essay I wrote with a lot of help from my teacher, and one I wrote on my own. In the end I chose to use my own essay (had it proofed by my friend) since I felt it was the right decision.

Location: Miami
State or Country: FL
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Gender: Male

Other Factors: I had an okay amount of ECs. HOSA for two years, in a club for community service for 3 years. National English Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society (through HOSA), Marine Science club. I think thats it for clubs. I have NO leadership positions. 120 hours of community service at Miami Childrens. As for AP classes I took as many AP classes as I could. Passed 5/6 of them, got the AP scholar award. I think almost all my classes throughout high school were honors.
General Comments: Yesterday, I was quite nervous and did not expect to get in honestly because I know how much UF likes to see leadership qualities. But I still had some hope. When i read “Congratulations!” I was shocked. It has not quite hit me yet, but I’m starting to feel the excitement! I made an account on here just to post my stats, because I know that when I was applying, I practically stalked last year’s thread. Congratulations to all the new Gators, and good luck to the future applicants that may stumble upon this.

What are the best freshman dorms?

Congratulations to @AGoodFloridian‌ @itstamara‌ @chicacademy‌ and all the new Gators, Class of 2019!

My daughter is a Sophomore in high school now, and I’m just looking ahead for her application to the Class of 2021. I am a Gator alum as well.

Looking toward the future of this process, I have a few questions:
(1) When did you first take the SAT and/or ACT?
(2) Which prep class did you take?
(3) What was your last SAT/ACT before you sent in your application to UF? Spring of Junior Year or Fall of Senior Year?
(4) To what other colleges or universities were you accepted besides UF?

Again, congratulations, and welcome to the Gator Nation! And, I’m sure you already know - The Warrington College of Business and the Engineering school are both excellent at UF.

When you get there, have a slice of pizza at Leonardo’s, across from the business school, and find Burrito Brothers (behind the church across from University Avenue). Go see the bats at sunset (bat house by Lake Alice), and if you are there during the summer, go to the Itchetucknee.River to go tubing one weekend!

@ANSims‌, look at where you will be having classes. The older dorms near University Avenue are very convenient. The new dorms by the West side of campus are closer to the Law School, Engineering, and the Reitz Union. If you are studying Liberal Arts or Business, your classes will be at Turlington Hall or in the business school by 13th Street and University Avenue. It’s a huge campus, so live near your classes, or buy a bike.

Accepted: Found this about Out of State Scholarships

The dollar amounts are reflective of the awards made to members of the 2013 freshman class:
•Office of Admissions Alumni Scholarship: $8,000 per year
•Sunshine Scholarship: $16,000 per year
•Gator Nation Scholarship: $20,000 per year

It says determination made by the end of March. Anyone receive the Gator Nation Scholarship and what where you qualification?

@HookEmGators‌ Thanks. And here are some answers to your questions.

  1. I think January of my junior year.
  2. At first I started off studying on my own and I used test prep books like the Princeton Review, but for the 3rd time I took the SAT I invested in getting a tutor to help me and that's how I got my greatest results. :)
  3. November of my senior year. Definitely before the final deadline to send scores to UF.
  4. UM, FSU and UCF. But I'm definitely attending UF! :-)

@HookEmGators My daughter is a freshman and my son is a Sophomore, so I’ll describe what she did, and what’s going to be different with my DS.

(1) When did you first take the SAT and/or ACT?
My daughter took the SAT three times, In Jan/Feb her junior year, May/June her Junior year and Oct/Nov her Senior year. She didn’t study much for the test, till the summer after her junior year. Then she would do sample test, a few hours each week.

My son and your daughter are about to run into the “NEW” PSAT/SAT. We plan on picking up one of the new SAT study guides over the summer and then spend time doing pratice test, etc. As we learned with my daughter, you junior year is very busy, so it’s hard to find time to study, once the school year begins. He’ll then take the new PSAT his junior year, and then the New SAT, after January. He’ll take it up to three times (if needed), first junior year Jan/Feb, second in May/June, and the final one in Oct/Nov time frame.

We’re also thinking about taking the ACT, since who knows what the new SAT may be like…

(2) Which prep class did you take?

Self study. Both have/had fairly rigorous class load, so I didn’t want to load them down with another class.Worked for us, but some students do need the formal structure of a class.

(3) What was your last SAT/ACT before you sent in your application to UF? Spring of Junior Year or Fall of Senior Year?

It was October or early November. UF needs your final test scores by the end of December, for them to be considered.

(4) To what other colleges or universities were you accepted besides UF?

Daughter wanted to do Industrial Engineering, so she applied and was accepted to UF, UCF, UNF, Auburn and Alabama. She didn’t want to live any farther from home, so I could get her to apply to any other schools.

Good Luck!
