The Official *UF* Class of 2019 Results Thread

@HookEmGators‌ Thanks for the support! We’re rooting for your daughter throughout her highschool years! To answer your questions…

  1. In July 2012, senior year of highschool. I got a subpar score of 1660. Two years later I took it a 2nd time.
  2. We don’t have that here in Brazil, but I studied and did some volunteer work abroad, so that certainly prepared me for university, at least emotionally.
  3. November 2014, two years after finishing school. I might be older than a few of my classmates hahah
  4. None. I know it’s wrong to put all your eggs in one basket, but hey, got to live on the edge sometimes, right? (no) Needless to say, I’m going to attend UF.

@Gator88NE‌ Getting butterflies in my stomach just by looking at that! Though I’m slightly worried… I have this odd feeling that I might not entirely know some mathematical concepts that American high-school graduates know. I’m thinking of getting a tutor for some months before the start of the term.

I did a quick search of what seniors learn in high-school there… derivatives and integrals, seriously? Sheesh, that’s college level stuff here.

@AGoodFloridian That’s 11th grade math here!

@Gator88NE‌ @itstamara‌ @AGoodFloridian‌ @brandonmc Thank you for the insight. I am trying to assess a target range for the upcoming academic year. Thanks again, and Go Gators!

Ooh I wanna join! Can you send the Facebook group link? I found one but I’m not sure if its the official @AGoodFloridian‌

@HookEmGators Hi. After reading your comments I just had to reply- my parents are both alum and have taken me to Leo’s and Burrito Brothers many a time. (We named our dog after Leonardos haha). I also grew up in TX so UT was my second choice. Hook Em.

  1. When did you first take the SAT and/or ACT: Oct. Of Junior Year. Recommend taking it early junior year- prep over summer and knock em out in the Aug. or Sept. Date. Take ACT/SAT both once that fall, prep again over Winter Break, and take both twice again second semester. Whichever test you do better on, Take it Aug. Or Sept. Of Senior year as your last hurrah.
    (2) Which prep class did you take?: None. Used Online SAT/ACT Resources to work on my weak points.
    (3) What was your last SAT/ACT before you sent in your application to UF? Final SAT was my worst, but I wasn’t super motivated cause I was already happy with my score. It was Nov. Of my senior year. Best score was my third try. My brother took it nine times in order to break 1800.
    (4) To what other colleges or universities were you accepted besides UF?: UCF, Auburn, Bama, South Carolina, UT Knoxville, Waiting to hear back from UT Austin.

My overall score on the SAT was an 1820. I could have done better, but I got a little complacent and only took it a few times.

I posted a message of gratitude there for the students willing to help us out, and evidently it was well received! Man, I can’t wait for August…

And about dorms, I think it’s a bit early to be talking about it, right? We’d have to have our contracts signed and what not to even start the whole process. Still waiting on that email too…

@HookEmGators‌ (MY ANSWERS IN CAPS)

"My daughter is a Sophomore in high school now, and I’m just looking ahead for her application to the Class of 2021. I am a Gator alum as well.

Looking toward the future of this process, I have a few questions:

(1) When did you first take the SAT and/or ACT?

TOOK MY TESTS LATE JUNIOR YEAR, SUMMER AFTER JUNIOR YEAR.

(2) Which prep class did you take?

MOSTLY PREP BOOKS. WENT TO A LOCAL SAT/ACT TUTOR A FEW TIMES. IMPORTANTLY, WENT TO MY HIGH SCHOOL MATH TEACHER AFTER SCHOOL FOR A COUPLE WEEKS AND MY ACT MATH WENT UP 2 POINTS! (2 POINTS ON THE ACT IS HUGE!)

(3) What was your last SAT/ACT before you sent in your application to UF? Spring of Junior Year or Fall of Senior Year?

30 ACT

(4) To what other colleges or universities were you accepted besides UF?

SO FAR EVERYWHERE I HAVE APPLIED: UF, UM, FSU, STETSON.

Again, congratulations, and welcome to the Gator Nation! And, I’m sure you already know - The Warrington College of Business and the Engineering school are both excellent at UF.

When you get there, have a slice of pizza at Leonardo’s, across from the business school, and find Burrito Brothers (behind the church across from University Avenue). Go see the bats at sunset (bat house by Lake Alice), and if you are there during the summer, go to the Itchetucknee.River to go tubing one weekend!

DONE ALL THAT BUT THE BATS. MY FATHER IS A DOUBLE ALUMNUS!!!"

@AGoodFloridian‌ Derivatives and integrals are Calculus. Not every senior takes it, I can say from experience. I’m currently taking AP Calculus A/B and there are only about 18 students in there from our entire school–and not all of them are seniors. And I go to a public Florida high school… However, you may want to touch up on your Precalculus for college so you can know your main formulas and such.

Don’t worry too much about math in college! I’m sure you’ll be fine.

For Calc, Chem and Physics, I would highly recommend Study Edge. My daughter is using them this year and has nothing but positive things to say about it.

Comments: Does anyone have information on the premed major? I couldn’t find anything on the UF website, but it was an option on the application.

Thanks for the advice! I have no issues with teaching myself new math concepts or watching videos- and proactivity was never a bad thing. Skimming through the calculus topics, they don’t look too bad though I don’t know how I will fare up against Chemistry, it was never my strongest point.

Ooo, it seems as if people here are starting to find me on Facebook! Dawh, I love you guys, you’re too kind.
I’m looking all over the page for any guy who’s doing Engineering and wants a roommate. There are plenty of girls though from the looks of it! No co-ed rooms I take it? Shame.

Do you all know the acceptance rate for out of state students?

@linab1 I’m going to steal a quote from UFOnline, as they just answered a similar question:

As a “pre-med” you can be any major. You do have to satisfy the STEM requirements and the advisor in CLAS will help explain those requirements. So an Art History major can be pre-med, as long as they took the correct courses, had the grades, scored high on the MCAT and had several medical related ECs…simple!

At this point, you don’t even have to select a major! Enroll as undecided and take a semester or two to decide.

Go Gators!

@CaliCash According to this article that I read earlier, 44%.
