The Official *UF* Class of 2019 Results Thread

Ah…the Magic that is UF Holistic Admissions/Scholarships…

@Naples13‌ No one told me it was a safe school, I understood my risks. Though I believed that everything else could definitely make up for my low ACT scores - that was the only thing missing. Since UF does look at people holistically, it definitely levels out the playing field as opposed to a university that only looks for one specific thing or weighs it more heavily.

That being said, I know some people personally that have 33 ACT scores, great grades and pretty great ECs and they didn’t get in. I just don’t know.

Thanks @saismon, it is true! Universities are looking for more than scores nowadays.

Everyone, Congratz again!

Hello everyone! I was accepted and invited to apply to honors and I did, but being that I have the bare minimum scores I am not sure about getting in to honors. Anyways, here are my stats!

Decision: Accepted

SAT: 2070 [Reading: 650 Writing: 680 Math: 740]
ACT: 31
Unweighted GPA: 3.90
Weighted GPA: 5.80
Rank: 13/240
AP: Human Geography [4] World History [4] Language and Composition [4] US History [4] Chemistry [5]
I am currently taking AP Physics, AP Calculus AB, AP Music Theory and AP Literature.

Extracurriculars:
Orchestra (Cello): I am principal chair in my local youth orchestra and at my high-school. I also have attended a music festival every summer since seventh grade, most recently Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, NC which is a very competitive five-week long program. Only twenty cellists world-wide are accepted. I also have done Hillsborough All-County since eight grade and Florida All-State since ninth.
Key Club: I have served as secretary in Key Club my sophomore and senior year and I was president my junior year. However, I joined my freshman year.

Job/Work Experience: I work at a bakery and assist with cake-decorating and work the register. I get to dress up as princesses at birthday parties too.

Volunteer/Community service:
Quite lengthy, because of Key Club, but I volunteer at a multitude of different places and have achieved at least 5-10 community service hours a month since freshman year. Unfortunately they are not all documented through Bright Futures… (my stupid younger self! lol)

Intended Major: I am listed as Pre-Medicine, but my actual major I have not decided. Thinking about microbiology? It is also possible that I may switch to nursing, or pursue being a PA.

Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: 50,000-60,000 (single-parent)

My essay for UF was very good in my honest opinion, it had a reoccurring metaphor of carving a sculpture throughout the entire thing and had a great hook. I also talked about about my father and where my inspiration for the medical field came from, which was when I stayed with him in the hospital after his body shut down for 20 min because of his continuing battle with alcoholism.

The essays for honors were a bit more difficult… I chose the Willy Wonka prompt and didn’t have an issue writing it, but staying within 150 characters was very difficult! I had to cut quite a bit from it. I also wrote it in a narrative style. In my other essay I talked about using a $5000 grant to start a music program in the elementary school near my current high school, which is in a low-income area. Overall, I was satisfied with my Honors essays, but wished I was allowed more words!

Congratualations to everyone accepted to UF and best wishes to Honors applicants!

**edit: Also, neither one of my parents were former UF graduates.

Anyone receive financial aid package yet? If not when do they usually go out?

@Snowbells‌
I thought Cornell required the SAT II tests? That’s one reason my child did not apply there. Were you able to get in without SAT II tests?

@mobie101 SAT IIs are college specific, so according to the school within Cornell that you are applying to, you are not required to take subject tests. For Hotel Administration, I did not. For the engineering school, then yes. I was accepted without taking any SATs or subject tests and only submitting one ACT score. I honestly don’t recommend people doing that, I can just say that I’m the luckiest person alive.

@Snowbells‌ Ah ha! That makes sense. I must not have read too far into the admission requirements. My son did not really want to apply (it is far from where we live) even though I tried to tell him it is such a beautiful campus!! I’m sure you will enjoy your time there very much!! As far as the SAT II tests, we weren’t really that aware that they existed when my son should have been taking them. By the time we realized what they were, he had already been out of his classes (such as Chemistry, Spanish, etc) for a year or more, so we figured his chances of a great score were reduced. Thank you for the information!

Where do I check to see if S was admitted to the honors college? Thanks

Hey what was your class rank? I applied to UF for class of 2020 and I’m nervous! I have the GPA, test scores, and I did the student science training program at UF for 7 weeks. However I go to a very competitive school so my classroom is not that great
