you have a great GPA, and it has become obvious over these past few months that the transcript is the most important part of an application. your scores (might) hold you back, though.

***EDIT: Please DO NOT superscore the SAT/ACT; instead, use the highest score from any one sitting.

UM GPA: 10th and 11th grade, 4 pts for all A's, regardless of H/AP/IB (in other words, discard weighted point), 3 pts for all B's, 2 pts. for C's, etc. DO not include +/-; A- is the same value (4 pts) as A and A+, for example.

jeter: please unsuperscore the SAT and figure out the GPA, then we would be glad to chance you.

brkr: Right now, the SATs are holding you back. You uw GPA is excellent, but the odds of them taking you over someone with, say, a 3.8 and 1990, are slim; get those scores above 1950, and I think you have a very strong shot. Study hard, you can do it!

answer his q. first obviously, if someone knows.

Athletic Status - list sport and your level: zilch.
Volunteer/Service Work: 3 yr service club member (done small bits of service but nothing really big)
Honors and Awards: NHS, Spanish honor society, honor roll a, AP scholar with honor.

jeter: i would guess definite defer; GPA is pretty low considering who they've been admitting (several people with around a 3.65, 2000+ SAT were deferred due supposedly to GPA).

muzic: same thing for you lol. You definitely have a shot, but i'd be surprised if you were immediately admitted w/o being deferred first, due to below avg. GPA and SAT. ECs are nothing special, and leadership is average at best.

Hmmm... I've seen decisions threads before, but never a chances thread for multiple applicants. It seems a little funny to me for some reason -- maybe the fact that it reminds me of a beauty pageant, with vc08 being the judge.

haha, that's an interesting analogy. Several colleges on this forum have similar threads (I stole this format from Boston College I believe, but I've also seen them periodically on Cal, Stanford, UCLA, and others). And I don't have to be the judge lol, jst tryin to help ppl out :)

sublimo: man, aren't you an interesting case study lol! You ACT is excellent, but I'm concerned about your GPA; that seems to be Mich's deciding factor this year, and I believe someone on here had around a 2270 SAT but was deferred be they had a sub-3.5 GPA. I would have to guess deferral for you as well, but it's hard to say how much they look at the recs and essays. For a candidate like you, it might make the difference; some people claim their essays got them in, others feel they dont really matter (which seems odd considering they make you write 3 of them). I'd say you have a decent shot at acceptance, no shot at denial, and a probably shot at deferral. Good luck!

oh yeah: legacy status will help! maybe that will get you over!

jskillz: i'd have to put you in virtually the same category as sublimo. I was accepted with a very similar SAT, but I had a 3.97 GPA , which made the difference IMO. Did you incorporate your background into your essay? If you did, that could be a big help. Founding a club is good, but what does it do? Many people, perhaps even a majority of applicants, founded some club or organization in hs. Is yours unique? You uw GPA is very solid, but nothing spectacular; overall, I'd say you are a solid candidate, but your essays need to add the 'pizzaz' to your application. Hope they're better than 'ok'! Best of luck, you have a great background, make Michigan realize what you could do with it!
