***The official University of Michigan Chances Thread:***

i forgot to add french club

more to my weakness: even though i'm in 3 ap and 1 honors, my electives this year are life management (really should not have put that one down... although it actually is pretty useful, learned how to fill out a resume), digital photography, intro to business (pretty much a blow off class), and leadership. i'm really afraid that these will hurt :(

Srry didn't add a couple things,
clubs include:
Business Professionals of America (really dedicated to this club, Commitee chairman of BPA)
Interact(Volunteer club similar to key club)
Science Olympiad
2 years of lacrosse
a year of soccer

100+ hours of volunteering at the University of Michigan Health System
Going to China to help needy kids this summer

Northwestern - I would put you at a reach due to your OOS residency and GPA.

mt522 - you should've definitely taken french.. I believe Michigan recommends 4 years and requires 2. Also, if you can get that Math ACT score up... will be good for engineering. If you can ace the SATIIS (good SAT IIs for engineering are a science and mathIIC) take them.

fuzzy - I think you're a match. You seem to have great interests in the major of your choice.

yeah, i felt though that if i continued with french my other grades would have struggled (finally got straight a's this year).

i also visited michigan today and they gave us a little hand out and for requirements to apply, only the school of literature, science, and the arts had the subscript saying they strongly recommend 4 years of language despite the fact they require 2.

the person speaking is someone who looks over applications, and she said that when she looks over engineering applications, she actually will look at the math subscore. this started getting me freaked out, but i asked her and she said the average/what is fine for her is a 28. phew.

not trying to sounds like a d-bag defending myself, just thought other future applicants might want to know!

I'm a junior in Michigan, white, public school

Uw gpa:4.0
Class rank:15/468
act: I got a 29 on the preACT(e35, m26, r29, s26), but I'm estimating a 30 on the one I took 2 weeks ago because I did much better in math and science

Ec's:key club president, student council secretary, nhs member, students against drunk driving member, varsity track, varsity tennis, week long political simulation (1 out of 100 selected in Michigan) at Albion College, tons of volunteering, organizing a voter registration at my school for the election.

Intended major:ross if I can get in if not polisci or english

Oh ya, and by my senior year I will have 8 APs and I got a 4 on UShist exam.

Is this thread not in use anymore or something? lol

plat: you're fine, apply in september and you'll be in my october or november. And put time into emphasizing your leadership and ECs.

ur: you look good, but have you only taken 1 AP so far? Again, apply early, emphasize leadership, and you're lookin good.

how much financial stuff do you think i'll get?

not much ...

D: why not?

[ *] College (LSA, engineering, etc.): Engineering
[ *] SAT:n/a

[ *] Essays: This is where it goes downhill.... originally, I only applied to UMich cause my dad said I should (but then I started researching it after I applied and now really reeallllyy like it), so my essays weren't the greatest - one about overcoming the language barrier at the deli I work at, another about a ballet performance, the last... I honestly can't remember, but I do know that it was about 100 -150 words under the word limit. Then I attached an additional essay that I really liked and spent a lot of time on.

Urgh.... I wish I had done my research earlier... I reeaaalllyy like this school now =(

haha why the hell are you worried? You can apply to freaking Harvard with those stats, don't worry you'll get in. =]

elegant dancer: I'd put you at a safe match actually. Let us know how it all turns out!

@elegant0dancer: I'm from Van-city too! However, I'm currently living in Vienna, Austria (mom got an international post at the UN). Accepted to UBC (did you apply, perhaps?) and am an applicant at UMich. I, too, applied just before the Feb. 1 deadline; my dad was the one who urged me as well! This is strange, yet comforting. Best of luck!
