The Official "What *Have* You Learned In High School" Thread

if you're falling asleep in class every day, start drinking coffee.

Yelling "Meatspin" outside of a moving vehicle may anger countless peers, but is still better than discussing math problems in a moving vehicle.

-- Not all teachers dreamed of being teachers

--Study smart, not hard

--If it's midnight and you are still studying, say screw it and go to bed.

^^^

A-flippin'-men to the last one.

Meet new people and make friends outside of your usual group. I have learned so much from talking to the "quiet kids" at school. They are often the most interesting and fun to be around.

Do not hate anyone, or do anything that would cause others to hate you.

Learn to joke around with teachers. They want you to feel comfortable around them.

At one point or another (depending on a ton of factors), you will realize that popularity is indeed a middle school thing.

Do not ever be stingy with your time, energy, or money.

It is awkard driving a car that costs more than the cars your teachers and friends' parents drive; it makes you feel like a spoiled brat.

-Everything I thought I learned in high school, I never really did.

-Reading a textbook in college by myself has taught me more than teachers in high school could teach.

-"College is going to be awesome!" is a bit exaggerated, especially when you factor in the work load and the competition....

i learnt that high school goes by a lot quicker than we anticipate,
and we usually end up worrying about things that don't really matter

also, senior year can be hectic with finals, SATs, college apps and all that.
i miss high school, but looking back i see how immature i was.

being different was also a reason for people to gossip or say detrimental things, but as corny as it might sound, you've got to just be true to yourself.

also, high school can be a great time to experiment with subjects and figure out what majors you're interested in for college.

If you ain't cheatin, you ain't tryin

Party

Have fun

Get sleep

I wish I could start high school over. God damnit.

lol. Go out on Halloween. ;_; Especially when you get like 5-10 calls from your friends..

Ask that girl or guy out - if you are rejected, it really isn't as big a deal as it would seem. It's usually worth the risk.

don't take a monstrous load of AP's. I have learnt that lesson

To take AP and tough classes. I used to try to slide by taking non honors courses, etc. but it truly is rewarding to be in AP classes. It's so much more fun to talk and learn with smarter people who have set high goals for themselves.

BigB_85: Not if they're competitive aholes.

Don't take 4 APs senior year just because your school lets you. I didn't really get to have fun senior year until APs ended.

In 20 years, I'm gonna end up making more money than the valedictorian.

Oh, and no matter how little you slept in high school, you'll sleep even less in college, so get some sleep.

Montombo: Well yeah, that would suck if they were "competitive aholes", but they're not. We compete on tests grades a bit, but everything is in good fun. In fact, most of the kids in them have become friends of mine, and I've been hanging out with them. None of them are the "holier than thou" type that come riding in on their high horse.

I've learned the only way to get through it to be yourself. You can't let peer pressure take over. I've learned not to worry about school so much, but to have fun and embrace present. I've learned to move on and let go, not to get caught up in stupid high school stuff.

theres no such thing as sleep
u can only trust very few people
i understand y people dont like southern californians
english is the worst subject in the world
math is god
a lot of teachers cant really teach but they know their material
grades/gpa r not a representation of one's intelligence
all standardized tests r pointless and stupid

-- College is better than high school (in my case)

-- Homecoming is something to be cherished, especially if you go to a LARGE university

-- You can either spend your time studying or spend it by searching through your teachers' desks, looking for tomorrow's exam (TRUE STORY!)

-- Lower GPAs and SAT/ACT scores will NOT kill you

-- HARDER CLASSES = BETTER EDUCATION (even if it does get you a lower GPA). Even though this doesn't apply to every school and, dear goodness, every teacher, for the most part, this is what applied to me...and my high school. Take the damn risk. You'll thank yourself later.

-- Having an excellent education is far better than having excellent grades (see above)

-- Sleep has a price, but it's worth paying for

-- If they're willing to stab your back, they're not your friends. :(

-- FIND YOUR COMFORT ZONE. This applies to both high school and college. Find what works for you. It's all trial and error, and, honestly, it's better to make some mistakes early on (i.e. finding your right study habits, sleep habits, finding time to hang out with friends, etc).

-- And finally... try new things and have fun. :) Childhood, adolescence, and the teenager years come and go.
