the official "what was the answer to..." thread for the october 6 SAT

are these allowed? if so, i'll ask my first Q

what'd you guys get for the last question on the passage that dealt with fortune tellers?

when the passage said something like "the really mystery is why fortune tellers work for telephone companies; shouldn't they be working on wall street?"...

the question was: "what is the tone of this excerpt?''

the options were

sardonic
baffled
condescending

i put sardonic…

anybody did the math problem with 3 variables z = w…x…?

I didn’t know how to do the function question… the one with the graph. y = f(x) if f(a) = f(2a)? explanation please.

thank you in advance

3 variables problem was z=2…you just had to add all the equations together and you get 3z=6 because x, w, and y all cancel out.

Wow I feel like an idiot >( I barely had time to do the z question.

What about the cylinder water depth one? I put 2; was it supposed to be in terms of the height?

sardonic

the variables with the z was so hard for me. Didn’t have time to finish it. I guess it was easy after all…I was testing out matrices and stuff x.x

cylinder-2 in (since cone’s water fills up 1/3)

anyone got the you had triangle, and you had to find the length (the opp degree was 105 deg) were we supposed to use the sin laws? I tried it after the test was done and got something like 5 sq. root(2) plus 5 or something like that

I though there were many diff forms of the test. I’m sure we don’t all live in the same area

side of the triangle, you need to realize that it comprised of 30 60 90 triangle and 45 45 90 triangle

answer was 5(root3) + 5

on the 30 60 90 part, the hypotenuse was 10 so that means the side opposite of 30 degree angle was 5, and that means side opposite of 60 was 5 root 3

and since you found out before that side was 5, the bottom side is also 5 from 454590 rule

side of triangle was easiest if u just remember the law of sine. How about what point lies in the interior of this circle, and they had a circle? And rectangle whatever has points this, this and this. If it was flipped over the y=-x line, what is a point

the rectangle one was (-3, -3)

Was the side of the triangle one a, b, c, d, or e? I said C, but that was just a guess. TOTAL GUESS! Only one on the whole test though, so I guess I’m in good shape.

the law of sine one? i think that was e

grrrr, the one where it gives you an angle and a side and you have to find another side. I SAID C CAUSE I RAN OUT OF TIME AND THIS IS MY LAST TIME TO TAKE THE SATS AND GET THE PERFECT SCORE IVE ALWAYS DREAMED OF AND IM LIKE SURE I GOT EVERYTHING ELSE RIGHT BUT MAYBE THERE WILL BE A TOUGH CURVE AND OBVIOUSLY YOU CAN TELL FROM THIS SENTENCE I WILL NEED TO BE 100% DEPENDENT ON MATH SKILLS IN LIFE SINCE I HAVE NO COMMUNICATION SKILLS BECAUSE I TALK IN ALL CAPS AND USE LONG INCOHERENT SENTENCES THAT GO NOWHERE AND NEVER END

hahahahahhaa

the math was pretty easy, thanks to Dr. Gruber’s SAT prep. i can’t recommend this book enough. i swear that it got me the 800 in math in may 07. i tell all my friends to get it and to do just the 101 problems that he recommends to know. on every section today, i finished 15 minutes early. if any of you are retaking this stupid test in november or december, try to study that book if you get a chance

i also put E for the triangle problem (last minute choice, but i think it was right). did anybody have trouble with the problem asking for the area of the figure with sides 3, x, and y? does anybody know the answer? there was also a question involving 2 x variables raised to two different fractions and multipied, and y was included somewhere..the question asked what the answer was in terms of y..was the answer y?

it was y. if you think about it, x was being raised to the 1/3 power. and it was y^3. so y^3/3 is y

lmitchell, yeah the answer is Y!

the answer is y, definitely…

N + O * 10^10000000

so what was the answer for the question with the function and the graph? anyone? y = f(x), if f(a) = f(2a), whats a?

for the cr question about the sailors (which everyone is saying was experimental anyway…) did anyone else put “oblivious to their surroundings”? i’ve heard imminent doom alot, but i don’t think that one really made sense…
