THE Ohio State University Honors College vs. other Big 10 schools

A couple weeks ago, I posted a thread seeking advice for choosing OSU (Fisher w/ $9,200 scholarship/year), UIUC (CoB), and IU (Kelley). Since then I was offered a place in OSU's honors program. Although I am still waiting for decisions from Southern Cal, UT-Austin, and Babson, I am very comfortable with choosing OSU. The only con is that I would like to major in entrepreneurship, and to the best of my knowledge, OSU does not offer entrepreneurship as a major (all of the other schools mentioned do). Should this be a major concern?? Any suggestions???

Thanks

Generally, the nitty-gritty of your major doesn't matter a whole lot. When you consider how many people take a job completely unrelated to their major, the difference between say, management, and entrepreneurship look pretty slight. This likely has even less impact if you want to be an Entrepreneur, where you're not as heavily burdened with credentialing yourself. If you think tOSU is the best fit for you, I wouldn't let what they call their major stop you.

Here's a couple of thoughts to considers. First, some of the most legendary entrepeneurs in American history had no college degree much less one specifically tailored to entrepeneurship.

Second, it's a heck of a lot easier to go out and start that first business when you don't have a mountain of student loan debt hanging over your head. Believe me that even in the best of times, banks do not throw money at "ideas." They want loan guarantees and collateral, and for a first business loan, there is nothing more important in their eyes than one's personal balance sheet.

thats what i also figured...if i were to get into usc or babson i would have to pay close to $200,000 for four years. going to ohio state would save me close to $120,000.

IMO, it would be tough to pass up tOSU Honors + $9,200/year, especially if you're paying full freight at your other choices.

I agree with Lenny above. You don't want to start off with a mountain of student loan debt.

Good luck with the other colleges...if they give some good merit aid, come back and ask when you are dealt your full hand and have everything laid out in front of you. The decision will be clearer at that point.

yeah...i should really wait but im getting really anxious...i almost sent in my enrollment deposit to OSU but thought better of it
