I applied to both of the colleges for mechanical engineering. I have narrowed my choices down to UC and OSU. I have visited both and love the campuses of both institutions. They are both the two best engineering schools in the state. I am slightly afraid of the size of OSU. I like that OSU has a highly regarded engineering program. However, UC also has a great program and awesome co-op opportunities. I was accepted at OSU already and I should receive some money. I have not heard back from UC yet, but I would hope to get slightly more there. I also feel like the engineering school at UC is more personal. I feel like it would be more laid back as well. I would like insight on both of these schools engineering program reputation and their social life as well.

It sounds like you like UC better.
Engineers are paid the same regardless of where they graduate from, there will not be any difference between an engineer from OSU and an engineer from UC, in fact with the internships, the UC graduate may even have an easier time finding work (although engineers find work regardless).
So if you like UC better, go with UC
Wait till you get your financial offer before you make any decision though.

In your case I would attend THE University of Cincinnati over Ohio. :-)

Any insight on the engineering program at Ohio State? I am seriously torn between the two and have no real bias at the moment.

Does OSU have co-op/internship opportunities? I know co-op is UC’s THING, but I wouldn’t assume you can’t get some similar opportunities at OSU.

I know people at both but not in engineering, sorry Once you are accepted and have packages, if it’s still unclear you can go spend some time at each one…overnight, sit in on a class, talk to profs.

It is possible to get a co-op at OSU. However, the student I toured with told me that very few students get co-ops and it is rather difficult.

Bump. Anyone?

Columbus is a cool city but I really like Cincy, a beautiful city on the Ohio river. UC about 1/3 as big as OSU, OSU is too big IMO with almost 60K kids. Can get Skyline chili in both cities; a tossup to many, I’d say you already like UC, it’s a good school!

Between these two, go with whichever is cheapest.

My son has applied to both UC and OSU for engineering. He is still waiting to hear from OSU, but if he does get in he’s still leaning towards UC. UD is also in the mix, but depends on what they are going to offer financially. My son liked the co-op opportunities at UC vs. OSU. My daughter is a senior at OSU this year and her roommate is an Enginerring major. She told me they don’t push the Co-op at all. They will help you if you choose to though.
@momtwo this is a year old post and the OP has already made his decision. Please note the dates of posts.
