The Onion on ranking colleges

How ?U.S. News? Ranks Colleges | The Onion - America's Finest News Source

USC always insists that it’s Cardinal and Gold…but we Bruins know that it’s Maroon and Gold.

Who administers COWFACTS test? Is it COWFACTS or COW FACTS?

The Onion should do one about preseason NCAA Football rankings, or even one that covers the first few weeks. Of course, the reality is that the real rankings are more hilarious than the parody could ever be.

Clemson, anyone?

I would be more concerned about the perpetually over ranked SEC teams.

8 is spot on. ;)

On school colors they had only one school in mind.

you need to reread that ----“Any college whose colors are maroon and gold is immediately eliminated”

RULES ARE RULES

Butbutbut they don’t consider number of a capella groups, or how many alums are mentioned in the previous year’s NY Times wedding announcements.

“Maroon & Gold” is the official fight song of Arizona State University.

well then add it to the list.

Let me mansplain this to you. The Onion was started at UW Madison. UW’s main rival is the UMinn known for their maroon and gold colors and Goldie the Gopher. End of story. No other schools were really the target.

Yep, but Madison has been home to the Axe for the last ten years. :P

And will continue to be well into the future.

Is there a word for people who read the onion and think its real ?

Maybe that should factor into the rankings.

mitchklong: [Literally Unbelievable](http://literallyunbelievable.org/)

:)

And the photo’s not even of Princeton. It’s West Virginia University, which has been the nation’s #1 party school off and on for years … then again, that’s probably part of the joke.

Thanks Slithey my biggest fear is finding my relatives there.

Considering “reputation” is a major component of the US News rankings, this system makes about as much sense.

Reputation is a large part of what colleges offer so it is very important. Measuring it can be tricky but USNews seems pretty close on average.
