The only negative about BC that I have actually heard is

umbofever09, Someone really ought to have a little chat with your guidance counselor since he is doing his students a disservice by giving out incorrect info. Yes, BC does want geographic diversity but I hardly consider 28% of the entire student body to be "a few from the Mass. pile."

And that percentage has been fairly consistent over the past 5 years. See page 36 of the most recent BC Fact Book:

<a href="http://www.bc.edu/publications/factbook/meta-elements/pdf/07-08/07-08_fact_book.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.bc.edu/publications/factbook/meta-elements/pdf/07-08/07-08_fact_book.pdf</a></p>

@leanid: Thank you for your kind words and, like I said, I ignored my guidance counselor in the end and applied EA anyway. Assuming he sent in the paperwork!! :p

@worried_mom: Thank you for the info on local applicants. So how can it be that there are guidance people out there discouraging some very good applicants from even applying to BC? Maybe BC went through a picky period back in the 1980's or 1990's that the local folks remember still (my GC is pretty old). Seems like BC has an image issue or we have some very crappy guidance cousnelors in Mass. Or a little of both.. thank you again for making me feel like my love affair with BC is justified, even if I'm still predicting fail for EA...

And Ny0rker (OP): To get back on subject -- I think every single posting in this BC board about Newton Campus for freshmen says the same thing you're reading here: The food is better and the dorms are nicer and the bus ride is short.

hahaha ok thanks everyone

just say your in a class of 300 students, what class rank (or range) would be a good bet to get into BC (assuming SAT scores and everything else are up to par).. if anyone has any personal experiences they are willing to share that will be very much appreciated!!

how are the dorms? how big? does anyone know if there are any pictures of one on the internet?

okay so let's set two things straight here.

First to answer your question: Your information is incorrect.
60% of freshman students live on upper campus, the other 40% live on newton.

Second, you are clearly interested in Boston College- why else would you ask the question. That being said, after reading some of the stuff in this thread, I have one suggestion: Do not listen to myoneandonly-he/she clearly has an axe to grind with BC. Listen to yourself and your family. Don't let people try to deter you from going. I know from experience right now that nobody compares BC to Harvard, and nobody compares BC to BU, or MIT, or Northeastern. We are our own school- you tend to find a bunch of parents on here either with axes to grind or acting like they know it all. They do not have the true feel of the school, nor do they know it all- in reality, they have very little idea of what the true feel is on campus- so I just suggest you listen to you and your family.

Ouch, espn. That hurts. Tough time with exams? As a parent, I would never pretend to know the true "feel' of a campus, and would never think my thoughts or opinions would/should ever be interpreted as any more than an opinion of a parent. I am, however, on campus quite a bit and have been a supporter of the school for years. As I stated, I think BC students are incredibly confident group of young people and am really happy my D goes to school there. Now, go hug your parents who are paying for you to attend :)

Don't worry dogwood...that wasn't a direct attack at you-not at all. I know from experience of recently going through the college application process that a lot of misinformation can be seen on all of these CC boards- not just BC's, and I want the kid to know the best way to figure out what you want is by not listening to outside opinion's- discuss things with your family and think about it yourself.

Example: A kid asked about how the math department was. You just can't get the true/realistic information from this site. How many people do you think that post on here are math majors or graduated math majors?

Exams went well by the way :)
