The Peace Testimony

See main article on the Peace Testimony.

The Peace Testimony is probably the best known testimony of Friends. The belief that violence is always wrong has persisted to this day, and many conscientious objectors, advocates of non-violence and anti-war activists are Friends. Because of the peace testimony, Friends are often considered as one of the historic peace churches. In 1947 Quakerism was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the prize was accepted by the American Friends Service Committee and Friends Service Council on behalf of all Friends. The Peace Testimony has not always been well received in the world; on many occasions Friends have been imprisoned for refusing to serve in military activities.

Some Friends today regard the Peace Testimony in even a broader sense, refusing to pay the "War Tax" that is a large portion of the income tax in the United States. Many Friends engage in various non-governmental organizations such as Christian Peacemaker Teams serving in some of the most violent areas of the world.

im not a phillies, eagles, or sixers fan. Screw philly pro sports...i want to root for a team that i have a tie with (i.e. school that i attend, local sports team like the BALTIMORE RAVENS, and etc)

Big 5 Basketball games at the Palestra are amazing and always packed, and philly has some of the best college basketball history anywhere. The Penn/Villanova game last week was crazy, anyone watch it?

How at all is Penn definitively better than Columbia?... If you take out Wharton, Penn CAS is definitely less prestigious than Columbia College. And Fu Foundation (Columbia SEAS) is a LOT more prestigious than Penn SEAS (though that's not saying much...).

Prestige is a poor standard by which to compare how much "better" some schools are than others. --How prestigous a school is comes from how many people want to apply vs. how many people actually get in. So, Columbia IS prestigous because many apply, and few get in. Well. If I don't want to get into Columbia, what do I care how small the number of people is that they DO accept? It doesn't make me want to go to Columbia any MORE just because I know it might be more difficult to get in?

I want to go to Penn over Columbia for reasons specific to what I like about Penn. It's all subjective. It all comes down to the person, and whether or not they're right for the school. The best I can say is that Penn is definitively better for ME. If I got into both, I would pick Penn over Columbia in a heartbeat.

that was nice turnaround from psycho ***** about ten posts ago to intelligent poser....jennyanne your last post sums it up perfectly (esp penn over columbia :)

Did you just call me a psycho ***** and a poser?? Wow. I don't really know why you would say those things, and I don't apreciate it at all.
