So my girlfriend and I are currently located in Wisconsin. It was never intended to be a permanent place of residence, and as soon as our lease is up in december we'll be making a move.

We've both taken a few credits after high school (I in Arkansas and she in Wisconsin) before putting off college for other things, and now we're looking into returning to school (very excited about it, in fact!)

However, if we DO move in December, wherever it is we move to will most likely require us to live there for a year before we would qualify for in-state tuition. That's all well and good, I understand how the system works, but we're moving because we hate wisconsin, not because we want to go to school. The two do happen to coincide, and that stinks.

I'm 24, and having to wait another year before making an application is a real let down. I understand I've gummed up my continued education and I'd like to hit the ground running.

What are our options? We're strongly considering the Orlando, Boston, and Baltimore areas to move. Should we pack up and haul off, find a place and a job (jobs, we're saving for school after all), and sit on our hands until that 365 day period passes and we can properly present our case of intent to reside in that state before and after we've graduated?

From what I've read online, if we DID pay out of state costs at a community college, the time at that school would not qualify as time spent when determining residency. That's no good, because we certainly couldn't afford that option.

I've googled and grumbled for a couple of days now, and finally submit to probing the general CC community for any insight they can provide in my gloomy situation.

(PS, thanks for any help, even if it's "you're bum out of luck")
