On CC, I have heard a lot of talk about that one outstanding EC that makes the applicant stand out and ultimately becomes the reason for his/her admission. Some examples are starting your own campaign, business, attending a UN conference, writing a successful blog, etc.

So please share the one EC that stands out the most in your application. If you've already been accepted then what was that one activity that you think was instrumental in your admission and if you are applying this year then which activity do you think will be instrumental ?

Well, I submitted my ED application, but I don’t think I’m legitimately anything special so I wouldn’t say I actually have an “outstanding one”.

I think it has to be an EC that possesses great significance to your personal development. Not everybody cures cancer or starts a business, but every potentially qualified applicant should have been involved in an EC that made an impact on him/her as a person. (the sport that taught him/her tenacity, the volunteer activity that enlarged his/her compassion, and such).

But that sounds just like everyone’s EC statement. To have an edge over others I think there should be a touch of novelty about your EC and the ability to articulate it on your part. Expressiveness and personality in the statement certainly helps even if you’re not so sure about the so-called novelty of your EC.

It remains to be seen how it will fare, but my EC statement is about my dance club which has helped me grow stronger, more confident, more conscious of the world of aesthetics, and played a significant part in my academic achievements (a curious link, I know). I knew that it was a good statement because I felt ever more passionate and grateful for Dance after I wrote it.
