You're overseas too! Well, actually I am overseas, my decision, however, should be sent to MA (still isnt here). Anyway, whats your situation? How are you a domestic applying from overseas?

Here's my unique situation:
I've lived all my life in CA (Mountainview -> Sacramento area) and am a US citizen and CA resident. Only recently, after my senior year, did my parents decide to move overseas to Bangalore, India for a job posting. As a result, I'm completing my senior year in India and will transfer to college for Class of 2010 (hopefully MIT!). Anyway, my situation falls under a technicality and I'm labeled a domestic applicant who is applying with a permanent address in the US and a temporary one in Bangalore, India. Based on my citizenship and residency, I'm still classified as a domestic.

I wonder if this might help us on our applications. After all, we can contribute a diverse perspective (having lived in multiple parts of the world).

I have lived in Hong Kong for most of my life, but was born in Boston. So I think I am a citizen with an overseas residence.

I hope living somewhere other than the states helps our apps too, but from the stats from MIT, im not too sure. I hope they count me in as domestic, not international.

They have an international applicant quota--that's why it would have hurt you. But, since you've applied EA, you must be a domestic. As a result, I doubt your stats apply here. Anyway, good luck!

Haha, zking, I meant to tell you this yesterday -- when I was coming home from work, I saw the mail truck outside Macgregor (Macgregor is 2 dorms up from Next House, don't know if you know that), and I actually went inside and struck up a conversation with the mailman to discern whether or not he had a tube in his truck. True story.

Thanks :-)! Next House front desk opens at 10:00AM, so I'm anxiously waiting.

Wait...the mail comes TWICE a day to MIT? WOW, I could have missed it. Anyway, did he have any tubes? Maybe I was rejected? Oh no.....

No, he said yesterday at 5:30 PM was the first time he had been to MIT. (I asked.) But I guess maybe there could be 2 mailmen who come to campus?

If he had said he had tubes, I would have told you. :P But who knows, maybe he just hadn't looked at the mail he had.

Wait...was he going towards Next House or away from it. It's possible he delivered the tube before, right? Or am I doomed to a rejection?

After reading Ann's blog from my mit..http://ann.mitblogs.com/archives/2005/12/the_fedex_chaos.html.. I called the DHL HK and US last night and found out there were 4 packages coming from MIT to HK, but none of them were for me. I then called the USPS in Boston and was yelled at by the lady there.

Does anyone know how MIT sent out the international packages?

Ben told me in an email that they send the acceptance notices overnight air. The defers and the rejects are sent regular.

Is that DHL overnight or USPS overnight?

I'd assume DHL, as Ann got hers through it. Also, from past experiences, USPS takes FOREVER to deliver packages overseas. Since it subcontracts the other half of the journey, the package is routed to a local company--usually leading to tremendous delays. DHL, on the other hand delivers the packages FAST! I sent my MIT secondary school report to MIT and the tracking showed receipt in 2 days (3 if you don't account for the time difference)! Ironically, I had a friend who's at MIT recieve my MIT decision letter and it still hasn't arrived!!!
