The Oxford tutorial system in the US

I want to know if there are any schools in the U.S. that employ the Oxford tutorial system?

Williams College. Though I’m not sure what percentage of Williams classes are tutorials compared to the percentage at Oxford/Cambridge.

Sarah Lawrence has something similar.

Of course, any college offers independent studies. Some just encourage them more than others.

Ohio University (not Ohio State) has an honors program that offers something very similar.

Swarthmore Honors

Thanks for the replies.

I believe that something like 60% of the students at Williams end up taking at least one tutorial class by the time they graduate

New College of Florida

Lawrence University in Wisconsin.

Is Yale’s Directed Studies program comparable?

Also, just for one major, but

In a word, no. It’s seminar based and limited in scope to the humanistic tradition.

State University of New York (SUNY) system has one innovative college utilizing the Oxford Tutorial Method, SUNY Empire State College. SUNY Empire calls it “Mentoring.”
