Did everyone else notice the new "Parent Cafe"? I was looking for a thread which seemed to have disappeared and I found it in this new place which was just started tonight, apparently. It is for parents to discuss topics not strictly related to college admissions and it is a subforum under the Parents Forum, I guess. It should be interesting!

I think it's a great idea. Parents can talk about off topic subjects without posting them with the college stuff and w/o having to go to the regular cafe, which we students tend to populate. I think it will focus the parents forum more than it already is, and make searching for something easier.

Even though the parents forum is for adults, kids benefit a lot from reading it.

Hey, Mensa. I just want to make it clear as a long time poster that students are completely welcome to read and post in the Parents forum. The only thing that makes it different is that the issues tend to be those that are of more concern to parents though there is a moderate amount of overlap.

yes, there are some students, such as myself who post more than a little frequently in the parents forum. I post here so often because I've found parents are SO helpful, who would've thought!

I am glad you guys like this idea. Many parents have requested a separate Parent Cafe and we at CC also think it is a good idea. The Parent Cafe is meant to be a place where parents can discuss topics that are off topic as far as college admissions or teenagers/parenting are concerned. We often do that here anyway but we don't want to clog up the Parent Forum with lots of off topic threads so as to keep it primarily on topics relating to college admissions or related parenting issues for those who are seeking out such discussions. We realize that a community of parents will also want to talk among one another on a myriad of topics. While we already have a cafe on CC, we know that many parents are not that keen on participating on that particular forum. Thus we are offering a cafe meant for parents. Of course, anyone who is not a parent is free to read and post on the Parent Forum or in the Parent Cafe but we know these are forums that parents foremost gravitate towards and are aimed toward that audience. We are happy to offer it. The Parent Forum is one of our most active forums on CC and we have many regular posters but also are happy to see more newcomers every day and welcome you all. So, if you have a topic that is not on colleges or parenting issues, please bring it up in the new Parent Cafe. Everyone, young and old, is welcome there.

I thought you were annoyed with us parents, at least that's the impression you left on the Cafe. See post #7:

I was ticked off by the thread about the kid and the ED decision at the time, so it was kind of a heat of the moment remark. I do apologize.

wow it's so much easier to apologize online :p
