the path of a business student

I was discussing this with a few of my friends and we could not reach a verdict on the best route for a student interested in business. Currently, I have been looking at schools with really top-tier undergrad business programs (Ann Arbor, Texas, Indiana, etc), but my friends believe it is better to go to a school like Harvard, Stanford, or U of Chicago (even though they don't actually have undergrad business programs) and get a degree like economics. Their view was that an education from a these schools, even though they don't have official undergrad business programs, will "open more doors" then with top-notch undergrad business programs. I’m really not sure what to think. Which option sounds better?

uh those aforementioned schools aren't just known for business. ann arbor and texas are among some of the otp in the country. obviously not stanford harvard uchi tier but they're up there.

Well, these programs certainly won't open more doors than Wharton, but yes, on avg should open more doors than the business programs you listed.

Although, a program like Texas McCombs BHP (business honors program) would give students the same opportunities. That being said, getting into BHP from out of state would prove to be very difficult (perhaps as difficult or more than getting into Harvard).

In reality, all of these programs will provide you good opportunities and factors such as cost of attendance, where you want to live, which school you like the most, and what you want to study should all enter into your decision.
