I’ll be coming as a Junior this year and I was wondering whats the attire thats allowed in Peddie. I heard from my tour guide that only blue jeans arent allowed but black ones are?
What do the students there typically where? Like just normal T-shirts or…?
Sorry, I’m an international student and my school has uniforms for the students…so i’m pretty puzzled =S

Okay, so CK-507 sorry I got back so late. I’m actually overseas, so it’s kind of hard for me to access CC.

Currently the dress code is very fuzzy, so I wouldn’t take any of my advice for sure. However, once I get back to the states I will call Peddie and ask for a more clear example of the dress code rules. The only rule I’m 95% sure of is that jeans are not allowed on campus (any type) except on Saturday, so bring a pair. I would suggest stocking up on khakis, corduroys, cargos, and any other type. No mesh shorts, though! For shirts I would suggest button-downs and polos until I know for sure. I’m assuming you’re a boy, and my brother usually likes to wear a nice sweater with a plain T-shirt underneath for extra comfort and warmth.

I’m going to get more clear advice once I return! Sorry for the delay :)

I was just wondering as a future Peddie Freshman of the 2011-2012 school year, when should i expect to get all of my packets and information containing my course list, schedule, dorm information etc. ? thanks for the help

You should be getting it by the middle of summer, I believe.I am not sure, as I will be a day student, but I think that is when you should get it. I will let you all know when I have more information :)

Thank you again for all your help

No problem!

What Chinese textbooks do they use at Peddie? I was just wondering because I know some textbooks teach in different orders and I want to know if there’s anything I did not learn yet. My mom wants me to brush up over the summer. Do any of you know? Thanks! And I can’t wait until September!

Yea I have the same question for French. My sister has all her old French books (yay french major sister) and i have been doing a little work in them i just dont want to be going in a completly opposite/different order than what im going to learn. Anyone with info PLEASE help

I learned yesterday that the text Peddie students use is called Easy Steps to Chinese (at least for first year). I think that during the year they go through levels one and two, along with the corresponding workbooks.

As for French, I do not know. If possible, I would reach out to your revisit day person - even if she did not take French. I contacted my revisit day person, and she was kind enough to ask her friends. If this is not possible, I would email the French department. I am sure they will be more than willing to help.

Beatlesforever, they do use Easy Steps to Chinese, according to my sibling. For French, we don’t know, as the language classes aren’t related. Don’t worry about brushing up for the fall–I’m guessing you’re taking French 1, and some people who are in that class haven’t ever taken French before, so you don’t need to do any work over the summer. Placement tests will determine where you belong. Don’t worry!

Thanks laughalittle. Yeah I’m relearning my Chinese because right now I’m probably ready for Level 1.5 (I took classes when I was little so all I need is basic review) so I’m very motivated to get pushed up to Level Two. I really want to get to AP Chinese, and in order to do that you need to somehow skip a level.

Hey! Kinda new and you might’ve seen me post but it’s unlikely. I’m applying to Peddie along with some other schools and I have a question about the dorms. Like which is considered the nicest and what a dorm is supplied with; that kind of stuff. Thanks!

Well on the Peddie website I read that you can get a room that has one large room and two smaller ones but i have yet to actually gone in that room before. In the basic dorms that freshman are in come with 2 beds 2 desks and 2 dressers everything else is supplied by the roommates

Thank you very much for your help laughalittle. I do appreciate it.

Also does anybody know how hard is Chinese level 1? im coming as a junior (international) and for varioua reasons i havent taken chinese for several years now as an official subject even though i still take private lessons. I can speak chinese to a certain level and write also. What do they learn at chinese 2 and 3? When will they schedule placement tests for the subjects? Sorry i really just do have a lot of questions lol.

I just received my Easy Steps to Chinese textbook today because in year one they cover Textbooks 1 and 2. On Peddie’s website it states that Chinese 1 learns 400 characters. I would definitely try for a higher level. In the course of a day I have already gone through a significant part of the first book, and I am definitely not as proficient in Chinese as you are. Unfortunately, I have no idea when the placement tests are and how the difficulty of the higher level courses; sorry (I’m curious too). On the website it says that by the end of Chinese 2 you should learn 900 characters, Chinese 3 = 1500, and Chinese 4 = 2200. From this I guess you could roughly gauge how fast the class goes.

Hey guys. Really sorry I have not gotten a chance to post in a while–internet connection overseas is spotty. Looks like these convos are going well. Sorry I cannot be more of a help with Chinese–it’s a tough language, and I don’t know too much about it at Peddie. I’m sure there are classes to accomodate the advanced learner, even if they are not mentioned.

For dorms–there are a lot. The ones that are considered “good” have different strenghts–some are close to specific buildings, like Caspersen, which has the school store, cafeteria, freshman lockers, and the Grill (the cafe). It all depends what you’re looking for. The rooms with 1 main room and 2 sub-rooms are in many dorms, according to my sibling. I’ll ask around–personal preference is key in determining the “best” dorm.

Thanks guys! Check in with you soon :)

I found out a bit about the dorms–Roberson and Trask are the smallest boy and girl dorms-- Roberson has only 4 rooms. A dorm where you can stay in a separate room than your roommate, sharing a common room, is Coleman (guys). I’ll try to pry some more information out for you :)

How often do freshmen get singles? Not that I want one–if I go to BS, I’d much prefer a double for bonding purposes.

I found out that there aren’t singles for freshman–juniors and seniors get singles as a “moving up” reward.
