The People Arrested at Speech Last Night Were Not UNC Students

As I alluded to in the thread concerning the disturbance when Tancredo tried to speak, oftentimes those who are out to create disorder and mayhem are not even students but rather outsiders with only one purpose for being there. I am glad to see that this was the case last night. It may have also been the case the last time, there just wasn't enough security to take the required action at that time.

From wral.com

UNC: Those arrested during speech were not students :: WRAL.com

Yeah! BEASTED!

Not surprised at all. Those in the famous Kent State photo were not Kent State students.

That was my point of reference in the previous thread as well.

I can’t wait until Cuse (?) see this!

I’m glad none were students, as at first they said only 2 weren’t students. Still waiting to see what will be done with the ones from Tancredo–some of those should have charges filed.

I found it interesting that Crystal Mangum (sp?) was also speaking on campus last night. IMO she should be in prison for false allegations and wasting god knows how much money on an investigation based on false charges–no protestors there though.

I’m actually glad to hear this. Makes me think that perhaps for controversial events like this, maybe a UNC Onecard should be required to get in? From looking at the people who were arrested, it is obvious that they are anarchists who have no life. They should be banned from the university grounds, as they are the ones that are giving the uni a bad rap.

As a side note, the only person arrested for the Tancredo incident was indeed a UNC student and Morehead Scholar. Can’t say that the Morehead program is likely to be too happy with her…

I never saw that about the one arrested from the Tancredo incident–thought DTH yesterday stated no charges had been filed from that event.

It would be a shame to close speaking events from the community, if I lived there I am sure there are frequent speakers I would like to hear. Not sure how the best way to handle that would be.

It is in the DTH today, as well as Raleigh’s News and Observer-

[UNC Morehead scholar arrested in Tancredo protest - Orange County - News & Observer](http://www.newsobserver.com/news/orange/story/1498392.html)

That is true, but I don’t know what else to do. Maybe place a one-year ban on public events for people who are arrested while disrupting one?

Thanks for the link Cuse.

One year ban? How do you enforce that? And what if the public event is one where they are invited to speak?

Well, since right now only seven people have been arrested, what about distributing their mugshots to the DPS officers in charge of security at the event? Or, since 6 of the 7 aren’t even affiliated with the University, what about banning them from the campus altogether?

I’ve seen these people firsthand, and they are nuts. With the exception of the one student who was arrested, these people bring nothing positive to UNC and shouldn’t be allowed back.
