Oh well we got U of M's admission letter today and not only did they admit my son. They offered him an incredible scholarship. Now cost is not an issue. With the scholarship it is actually cheaper to go to U of M.

Of course it is totally up to him. So will shall see?

Does U of F offer scholarships without applying for one? Just curious, beacuse U of M did?

I don’t believe U of F offers scholarships like UM.

Congrats!

If you don’t mind me asking, what were his stats? It’ll probably boil down to UF or UM for meand cost will end up playing a big role in the school I’ll end up choosing.

As far as I know, UF doesn’t give scholarships out as easily as other schools in the state. The scholarships they have need to be applied to separately. I’m not expecting any scholarship from them.

Make sure your son doesn’t make his decision based on money. I know UM requires freshmen to live on campus, so the costs may even out then. Miami is definitely more expensive than Gainesville. Both schools are great though. Good luck with the choice

2k, he wants to be a Gator. He was honored to receive the offer from UM. But he really wants to go to UF.

He was also accepted to Ga Tech, so he has other options just in case he doesnt get in to Florida.

Of course my preference is UF. And all though he has downplayed his Gator fanatic habits over the past year. I know he wants to go to UF over the other schools.

Gator4ever, how is it cheaper to go to UM than UF. My daughter got the University Scholarship from UM and as far as I know that was the biggest they gave out at this point in time(Singer and Stamps come later.) I know we can add the bright futures but what else?

Jacob my bad typo 4.0 see what happens when you learn to type after your 30.
Remember my genaration only had smith coronas and even them were few and far. Today everyone is emailing, texting etc. Anyway yes gpa is 4.0 not 4.04

malaml, we live in Miami so the dorm and meal plan would not be calculated as an expense.

I dont blame my son one bit for wanting to go to UF. If he goes to UM it is just the same ole same ole. Living at home and the routine.

Plus I am proud to say that for engineering UF is a much better school. If I am wrong? Someone please show me the proof. I have searched every where for a comparison.

“Someone please show me the proof. I have searched every where for a comparison.”

Not “proof”, but US News has UF’s undergrad and grad engineering programs ranked at about ~30th nationally…Miami’s ranking is ~100th or lower. If you look at reasearch $ or patents it isn’t close. Miami isn’t even ranked as high as UCF for reference.
