The 'Pollyanna'

hello again, everyone! my first audition (one of 10) is in late January, and I'm still attempting to find material that I absolutely love and with which I am entirely comfortable. however, I belatedly realized that I need to stick with a 'type' in my audition. I've played the ingenue many times, and have recently played some entirely different roles (Annie Oakley, Mrs. Lovett), but I think that I'd rather market myself in college auditions as a 'Pollyanna', which is the epitome of my own personality. can you suggest any songs or monologues that would cater to this character type? I'm also searching for songs that could showcase my soprano range--I'm learning to belt but it's still not my strongest suit.

thank you for any suggestions!

ps--one song I love is 'Oh, to Be a Moviestar' from The Apple Tree. it'd be a good acting piece, but it doesn't really do anything spectacular for my voice. would this be an alright uptempo, paired with something more legit soprano for a ballad?

no suggestions, but I think that your screen name is pretty funny then. (I"m assuming it refers to the bad guy in Les Miz).

haha, thanks! he’s honestly my dream role, even though he’s about as far away from a soprano Pollyanna as you can get! (:

You should look at “I’ll Show Him” from Plain and Fancy. It’s a Barbara Cook piece, shows off your voice and is very Pollyanna! Good Luck

ooh, what a great suggestion, camge! love this song and barbara cook. thank you so much!
