I can’t help you on the interview, but if you look at the Posse Foundation website, you’ll see the organization is quite “legit” and doing wonderful work.

I actually met a couple people who were in the Posse program last month, so yes, it is very legit. They were low-income background students from the LA area and were matched with Grinell College, a highly competitive LAC in Iowa. They were having a good time from what they told me, and were receiving a high amount of support from their posse advisors and group meetings.

Our high school participates in the Posse program and has been able to send some students to top schools. As the name implies, the students are admitted as a group or 2 or more from the same school, so that they can support one another. It’s a great program. Kudos for being invited to participate.

My son’s roomie from last year is a Posse student. Great guy who is pre-med. From the LA area. Maybe you met him, Tyler09. It was a real plus for my son because it hooked him up with a whole group of students he might not otherwise have gotten to know as well. He even got invited to one of the offsite retreats. Roomie said the program had been very helpful to him both before and since coming to Grinnell. It’s one way a rural school like Grinnell can recruit and especially retain, minority and/or lower income students. Grinnell takes 4 Posse students per year, so there are 40 Posse students on campus and I’m sure the older ones are a big support network for new students. Last year, the student body president was a Posse student.

Terp2014 - I’m surprised at how little information about Posse there is on CC, and I don’t really have anything to add except that it is an incredible program and you should be very proud to have been nominated.

On another thread someone suggested contacting the Posse Foundation ([The Posse Foundation](http://www.possefoundation.org/)) and asking to be put in touch with a Posse scholar who has been through the selection process. Good luck and congratulations!

On a previous thread, you mentioned that there are several rounds of competition. Do you know what they are?

And from reading the other threads on CC it’s my understanding that after you’re selected as a Posse scholar you apply ED to a (regional) partner school and you get a scholarship if you get in. Is that right?

“All nominated students will be asked to attend a large group recruitment meeting. After the large group interview about half will be called back as Semi-finalists. Each Semi-finalist will come to the Posse Office to be interviewed individually by Posse Staff. Between 20 and 25 of these students will be chosen as Finalists for each partner school. Finalists must agree to accept the Posse Scholarship if it is offered to them. This is a serious commitment. Finalists will each fill out an application to their Posse College. In mid-December they will participate in a group interview with all other Finalists for their particular school. An admission committee from the college including the Dean of Admission will attend this meeting. Finalists will be notified if they are Posse Scholarship Winners in late December and begin Posses eight-month pre-collegiate training program in January.”

and
“If a student makes it to the semi-finalist round, she will designate three of her Posse home citys partner institutions as her first, second and third choice school. If she then makes it to the subsequent round, the finalist round, Posse will attempt to match her with her first choice, and if she agrees to become a finalist, she is in effect applying early decision to that school.”

That web page should answer any other questions you have. This is an incredible opportunity!

A friend’s daughter went through the Posse process and was ultimately not selected. I got the impression that the interviews were designed to identify kids with leadership capability and also those who could get along with others. If you’re low-income, that will also help you. Best of luck!

Has anyone recently completed the second round semifinalist interview? If so, can you tell me what your experience was? How long was your interview, questions asked?

Hey jazlaumir! I have asked my DD to respond to you:

Hey… I had my second round interview a couple of weeks ago and it went really well. It was much different than the first interview, as I was interviewed individually by two Posse representatives. They asked me about the essay I wrote during my first interview, my experience as a biracial American, my family and my experience in high school. They also asked me what I could offer to a Posse, and how a Posse would be beneficial to me. One of the interviewers gave me scenarios and asked how I would handle each one. Overall, it was very relaxed and very personal. I wouldn’t worry about it! Where are you from? I am in Posse New York.

I was curious out the process my daughter’s interview was also conducted by two people but only lasted 15 minutes! They asked for her folder of items they asked her to bring and reviewed for 10 minutes beforehand. They then called her in asked a few questions and she was done.

I was surprised! Not sure what to make of it?!
