@dgoat2010: I think that mentioning the extra orchestra stuff in a resume would be a good idea. Especially if you have been playing violin longer than you have been in a school orchestra. And I’m not sure what to tell you about the supplement question but I do know that a lot of stuff is repeated for a regular supplement so I don’t see it being a big deal if some things are repeated in the music one.

@jamiroquai: My advice would be that it all depends on how you want to present yourself to the college. Do you want to major in Politcal Science or something that would get you a job in a political office? If so, I would separate the two activities in order to show how you are already involoved in your desired field of study in more than one way. If you don’t want to major something of that nature, then maybe it would be better to show that you also like to help your community.

@aperthetic: Yes, I do think that they want the date that you entered the high school you currently attend (the one you put in the high school name section).

@Say Anything: I think it depends on what you did in Girl Scouts. Did you do a lot of community service? If so, then list it as such. If not, put it as other. I would probably put it as Community Service.

If I’m Hispanic, can I just tick the Hispanic box and not categorize myself also as either African-American or Native American or White or Asian?

Should I put additional AP/IB tests in the Additional Info category or do you think it will be self-explanatory since I have IB Classes in my Current Courses section?

Also could you address more than one thing in the Additional Info section? Like clarify a few awards etc; address the more AP/IB classes; talk about X, Y and Z

Terp, my D is discussing her extended essay in the additional information section as a way of reiterating that she is an IB diploma candidate and also because she’s proud of the essay and wanted a place to show what she’s working so hard on.

Oh cool! Thank you so much for reminding me about the EE I hadn’t even considered mentioning it in my app and it directly relates to a couple of my ECs too!!

Hello! I have a question (probably the first of many): I participated in the National Youth Leadership Conference, and I’m not sure whether I should list this as an EC, honor, etc…

This question was posted but never answered, and I’d like to know the answer too.

My questions:
When listing ap scores, is it necessary to list subscores for ap calc and ap music theory, or can I just list the main score?
Theres a place that asks for any college courses taken. I’m going to be taking calc II and calc III at gatech senior year. Should I list them if I haven’t taken them yet?
In the honors section, would national honor society and national science honor society be considered national level or school level?

I listed honors societies as school-level honors.

I also listed college courses I will be taking as a senior. In my additional information section, I’m just listing the course name and “Grade as of 10/31/09” (if you were applying ED).

In regards to the online Common App, how long will it take for my selected college’s supplements to appear on the common app website? Will it be as soon as they come out? Or will the Common App website most likely wait a few days?

And if we are using the common App for more then one college, do we simply scan it and send it out to the numerous colleges or no? Because i’m using the common app for colleges that i’m applying EA and RD too. So i don’t know what to do in this situation.

@fendey516 - It really depends on the school. Right now, only one of my schools have posted their supplements, while the rest haven’t. I’d keep checking back if I were you.

When you are listing EC’s and you have to check which grades you were in when you participated in the activity, would it be wrong to check 12th grade too, especially if you are continuing an activity during your senior year?

I’m sure this question has been asked before, but I am a little confuse:

For schools that are test optional, do I submit a separate application? I know that these schools give you the option of test scores or no test scores in the supplementary, but will they still see your scores (it will be on the app anyways) even if you select no? I hope that makes sense.

Would others agree with the previous poster that National Honor Society and National Latin Honor Society are school honors and not national honors? How about the National Latin Exam? Thanks for your opinions.

Probably the first of many questions:
I am enrolled in five college classes and one high school class this semester, and will probably be enrolled in six college classes and no high school classes next semester. I know that the Common App tells me to list any college classes under the Additional Information section and to send a transcript, but I am wondering if I should list the college classes in my Current Year Classes as well. I don’t know if this will be redundant or if I’m only supposed to list high school classes there.

When it says “By checking this box, you represent that (i) you are over the age of 13…” on the Common App registration page, does it mean 13 and older or 14 and older? It means 14 and older, right?
